Decomm Wardroom

Hi,

My name is Paul Rick, I'm looking for any officers who served abourd the King for her last STANAVFORLANT and her Decomm crew. Specifically Chris King or John Wilson....

I spent 4 years onboard (1987 to 1991) and served as Boilers Officer, EMMO/Repairs Officer and Gunnery Officer. During that time we completed two STANAVFORANT cruises, a shipyard maintenance period and the "Cruise from Hell" - Remember that?

Would love to hear from anyone who was aboard during these times.

Paul M. Rick

Hi Lt. Rick,
Hoping you remember me from our time together onboard the Warship from Hell. I was SM2 Gordon back then, in charge of the best damn signal bridge in the east coast. If I remember correctly, whenever combat gave you bright young officers info, and you REALLY wanted to know what was going on, you would ask us. Of my five years on board, one of my favorite things to do would be to observe the maturation of the young officers as they go from ensign to jg to LT. I will say this, King definitely had some fine officers. From my early days of Moreland/Cuppett with Lts Moran, Fries, Keschemethy, Dalrymple, Dyson to the 'Cool hand Luke' Williams regime with the likes of yourself, Wilson, Opgrand, Lawrence, King, et al.. I look back fondly on the mid-watches underway on the bridge sailing solo and the myriad of ways to keep the watch team awake and alert. KING definitely had a hell of a crew. Feel free to contact me at the email above or TGordon@frytechnology.cookson.com

Next-to-last wardroom

Hey Paul! I missed out on all the fun of the deployment and decom, so I guess I'll consider myself part of the next-to-last wardroom instead of the decom wardroom.

I'm glad to find a way to get in touch with you. You and Chris kinda fell of the edge of the world after the decom ceremony -- or was it me who did the disappearing?

Are you still in the Norfolk area?

Drop me an email at davecass@cox.net and we can catch up on the last ten years. Also, please let me know if you find a contact for Chris.

Dave

Paul,
Long time . . . Where are you and what are you doing? I am flying out to join CARGRU TWO on HST next month. Looking forward to a couple days in SIG on the way. Probably my only chance for some liberty for the next few months . . .

My email: swo_dog@cox.net or swo_dog@hotmail.com

LT,

Good to see your post and catch up on some of the other post. Though I started as a lowly RMSR during the first of two STANAVFORLANT cruises I had some great leadership. Especially with ENS/LTJG Moran. I was very fortunate to have the KING as my first duty station, though decommissioning wasn't glamorous, it helped shape my career - 17 years and counting...working in the Pentagon for a well respected Admiral as his communicator and hoping to make Master Chief in a few months!!!!
