YOU CAN HAVE HIM..........YOUR WELCOME.........

The big lump is out-of-favour at Sincil Bank and is negotiating a pay-off with The Imps to release him from his contract.

That would leave Battersby as a free agent meaning United would not have to pay a fee for him.

Battersby has had an in-dfferent time during his time at Lincoln, going from fans favourite to boo-boy target. It is believed that he has been frozen out of the Lincoln side mainly because of his huge apperance bonus that is installed in his contract. The sum is rumoured to be around the same weekly wage as City's five summer recruits from non-league.

Pilgrims boss Neil Thompson told the Lincolnshire Echo that Battersby has impressed in training and could end his search for a striker.

"Tony is a good player and he is the sort of person we are looking for because he is proven at this level.

"We've had a look at him and he has fitted in well with all the other lads and I think he could do a job for us.

"He has looked good in training and done everything that has been asked of him so it is looking promising at this stage.

"I've been saying for a long time that we need a striker, and Tony could be the person to fill that position - but his name is not on the dotted line just yet."

Thompson indicated that he has no problems signing a player froen out of United's local rivals first team.

"I think Batts has been left out of Keith's plans purely because of money so I have no misgivings about having a look at the lad," he said. "I'm not interested in problems Lincoln have. My only interest is finding players who can do a job for us.

"I personally believe he can so we will see how the situation develops."
