Lake Amador trout fishing 12/26/03

Bill Shelton, Bill Gygax and Rusty Gygax swooped down on Lake Amador, near Jackson, Ca. this morning and immediately got into the fish starting at 7:30 AM fishing off a point. We were fishing from my 22 foot Harber Craft aluminum boat pulled up on shore. The fishing was so outstanding, we went to catch and release mode by 8:30 AM. We were using light spinning outfits with 4-6 pound main line and TadPole™ snagless weight with 36 inch leader 6# test Shelton quick release #10 bait hook. All the fish average 3-4 pounds. We were using Berkeley chartreuse green sparkle Power Bait on 15 of 18 total fish caught. Four fish were release in the water untouched by hands. Three of the fish were caught using a Shelton quick release worm hook equipped with a night crawler and 3 small marshmallows. I needed release sequence shots of the hook removal process for pictures for Fields and Streams magazine. A typical release sequence of this untouched release is included with this post. The release sequence is magical. What a great time, great weather and great friends. Thanks buddies for making this such a special day. We kidded each other all day. It's so nice to have a net boy and a camera boy! Just kidding guys, I know you guys caught your limits. We also shot video as well as pictures. Should you decide to try this great fishery, go early and bank fish from boat on the shaded side of the Lake. Notice that we were in the shade in most of the pictures. The bite seems to slow down when the sun gets up.
Hot trout streaming video action clips of fishing at Lake Amador. This is a combo trip with Catch and Keep and Catch and Release. See these cutbows cut up like steelhead. See some high tech release sequences of both bait hooks and worm hooks. See fish go in the cooler and swim away to be caught another day. I had some great footages, but had to trim it down, but it is still a long video. It is 42 MB and if you have a slow connection, then go to your high speed buddy house or plan on a long load time. Forgive the mispelling of Amador on the movie, it will be corrected soon.
