Soldiers defend mothers from cops
SOLDIERS and Police almost had a horrific gunfight in one of the National Capital District suburbs over a minor but sensitive issue.
Police came in full force, fully armed and chased away all the mothers and men who were selling food items, betel nut and smoke just outside one of the bookmakers in Boroko, NCD.
They threw away eskies of drinks, betelnut, and money from the mothers and kicked some of the men selling the items at that location.
A man inside the bookies, betting his horse, screamed at the police, being fully armed and mistreated the women especially and the young girls that were selling food items outside the bookies on Saturday.
Because he was screaming at the police, four armed policemen stormed into the bookmaker area and started booting, kicking and pulling the old man that screamed.
Defence Force Soldiers placing their bets stepped in to defend the old man (named) and started arguing with the police in a very angry manner.
“You leave him alone, this is not how you treat this old man, he is innocent, go, go, go away. Go and arrest Belden Namah and Peter O’Neill. This old man is only trying to defend his wife and how you treated her, throwing her betel nut, her esky of drink away into the drain,” the soldiers argued.
Other solders joined and the argument intensified and politics came into play. Very sensitive things were said and that made the two disciplinary forces have a near gun fight in front of the public who witnessed everything and listened to all that was said by these two forces.
The soldiers were defending the mothers and the man that was brutally kicked, only for shouting at the police and telling them to replace his wives esky of drinks and bag of buai and another woman’s container of sago and fish that was also scattered to the drain by the police.
“You want to fight, fight with us, now kill me, shoot me now, shoot me,” the soldiers screamed.
They were talking about the millions of kina that police are receiving from the current government and also about the treatment given to the mothers who are trying their best to fend for their living, selling food, betel nut and drinks in every location possible – this one was at the Boroko Bookmaker.
The fight lasted for a good 30 minutes.
