      Pestus, believe me the answer is NOT that PNG has too much democracy and the thugs use it to their advantage. A democracy, again, has a strong justice system. What you see is the problem is characteristic of a weak democracy, not a strong one.

      This idea of criminals being given too many rights is the kind of talk that comes from developed countries where there is a strong judicial system BUT the white collar criminals have access to high powered, effective lawyers. In PNG, 90% of the corruption incidents by high level people don't even get investigated, much less a charge being brought, much less the fellow even needing a lawyer to defend them in court.

      Our system is so broken down it's incredible. It isn't at all an example of "too much democracy". Look up what a democracy actually means and consists of. The rights of lawabiding citizens are given the highest priority in a working democracy.

      PNG is no longer a working democracy.
