If you follow Yama's case very closely you will see some conflict of interest/split shown by the Judges. There are also numerous appeal being experienced against the Supreme Court/National & the District Court Decisions, has the quality of qualified judges being compromised by political appointments or nepotism by the top judges?
Where is our judiciary heading?
Judiciary is the only arm of the Government which is holding PNG together. It has been referred to by the Justice Minister as the best and the only glue that is holding the country together.
However, we have two different parts that run the judiciary. The administrative arm of the judiciary which manages the administration of the judiciary, run by the Secretary for NJSS, National Judicial Staff Services. The other arm is the judiciary, managed by the Chief Justice, and he is responsible for managing justice only. However, he has now ventured into the administrative arm of the judiciary. He has now grounded all the NJSS vehicles, and everybody is also grounded. There are also feelings about the appointment of senior officers in NJSS. Everybody with NJSS are tight lipped about what is happening, and we are praying day in day out, hoping for the best which is yet to come.
