It is very primitive thinking (although widespread in PNG) to think that it is the role of politicians to bring development. Go to other countries and you'll see that those which advance the most are those where the development grows first at the local level with increased economic activity, which then puts PRESSURE on politicians to fall in line. But at the end of the day, it is government bureaucrats and planners, not politicians, that in conjunction with local business and people, create the most development. Politicians are excessively over-rated in PNG. |
