| City polls get dirty
ELECTIONEERING in the national capital appears to have got dirtier over the weekend. Supporters of one candidate “captured” and are holding a young man prisoner, claiming he was a member of the gang that stole a vehicle of their candidate last month. Supporters of candidate Robert Tia alleged yesterday that the man they are holding captive was a member of a gang hired by a rival candidate to steal Mr Tia’s vehicle. They claimed this information was obtained from the son of a police reservist being held captive. He appeared to have been bashed up as his head and face had cuts caked with dried blood. The 21-year-old, from East Kerema, told the Post-Courier later yesterday that his gang leader (named) told the gang of four that the candidate (named) gave K500 and would give more when they had hidden the vehicle. Supporters surrounding the “suspect” told the Post-Courier that while they respected the law and would want to have him handed over to the police, they wanted to get to the bottom of his (prisoner) allegations. A spokesman speaking on anonymity said if they handed over the suspect to the police, the gang leader may not be caught or may not surrender and the matter may not be dealt with. He said the supporters) would use the suspect in their custody to find the ringleader. “We will handover the suspect as soon as we know what happened and when we find the ringleader,” he said. On May 20, Mr Tia’s wife parked the vehicle on the side next to the SDA church in Gerehu when four suspects held her up at gun point and took the vehicle about 9am. The vehicle was later that afternoon recovered kilometres into the bushes far from the nearest village at the back of Seraga settlement. Roselyn Tia said she was with four of her children, two elderly men from Wanigela and another young man when the vehicle was taken away in broad daylight. When Mr Tia was contacted, he said he was aware of what was happening and called on the supporters to handover the suspect, but he was also mindful of the allegations and did not want to inflate any trouble. He said he knew that the other candidate had a lot to lose and he did not want anything stupid to happen and therefore called on his supporters to get to the bottom of the allegations. Meanwhile, NCD and Southern region police commander Tony Wagambi said holding the man prisoner by Mr Tia’s supporters was a criminal act and called on them to handover the man to police. The suspect is being moved around from location to location to avoid detection.

These idiots shouldn't practice their idiotic habits and behavious in other areas. They should do them in their own places. PNG is going backwards with this kind of attitude (still primitives). |

Yes, but you have to understand that certain politicians are going FORWARD. They can retire later on to their houses in Australia and just read the newspapers of what is happening back home in PNG.
Just like Julius Chan and Pais Wingti are doing right now!!!!!!!!!! |

The rule of law still applies. We cannot have certain ethnicities hijacking the rule of law at their own whim!!!!!!! |

Robert Tia should go to Tari and run for the elections. NCDC should pass an ordinance on election of candidates and ban any highlander from nominating in POM, NCD seats.
Sounds wierd and divisive but highlanders seem to instigate trouble mobilizing illitrate K1.00 supporters. Motu-Koitabu and any coastal residents of the city should avoid any caveman-oriented person from the highlands, even if they change their names to Raka, Ranu or Kila.

Cowgirl, I'm truly amazed that a so called thinking person such as yourself would say such a racist thing. Especially since your kind of racism doesn't unite PNG but divides it, allowing us to be divided and conquered by every Tom, Dick and Harry foreigner with an empty pocket and a gleam in their eye |

Check them both out.. Dan Kakarya and Meokali are both from Enga, and they are taking this as their Enga Regional seat. Goodness, this is NCDC and people should respect each other. There is an atitude problem in our so called educated people.
Take for instance the Governor General election. Pato Kakarya and Albert Kipalan, both from the same province (Enga) had a go at each other and they both lost.. hehehehe.. I believe the right person got that job.
Now we have two Engans fighting it out tooth and nail for the NCDC regional seat, my gosh, cant this idiots know how to humble themseves and campaign with dignity?
I really hope, this sort of people dont get into represent us the rate payers. From the outset, they are at loggerheads, and they will do the same, when they get in.
My vote goes to John Eggins.. i hate to say... this but as an Engan i am ashamed of what is happening in the city.

As far as I've ever heard, John Eggins is completely clean and very anti-corruption. |

Eggins is the man for NCD. Those of you in POM please support this worthy candidate. I think he resigned from his good job because like some of us, he is fed up with corruption. We need people who can really grab the bull by the horns and tackle and weed out this cancer fo corruption.
PNGeans should think beyond their little egos and think progress and development. we really need to do this now, and Mr Eggins is a proper and fit person to represent NCD in parliament. Lets try him for the remaining months and see.... |

I'll always remember my shock at seeing his report on EMTV some years back on the corruption of the Julius Chan government, and how strongly he questioned Chan. I saw a passion there which I've hardly ever seen in a politician.
Has anyone heard anything negative about Eggins? |
