SOMARE AT IT AGAINSeptember 8 2006 at 12:20 PM
The following post was taken from todays (Friday 8th Septmeber, 2006) Post Courier. It's about time somone came out wit the truth. I have suspected for a while now that Somare was dodgy. Making submissions in cabinet only presenting benefits is shallow.
Somare ‘biggest liar’ – Philemon
PRIME Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare has been accused of lying about claiming credit for the country’s present improved economic standing. Sir Michael, in a public address on Wednesday at the National Executive Council meeting in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, claimed stringent controls on “off-shore borrowings’’ and tight expenditure had resulted in the country achieving good economic growth and the restoration of stability investor confidence. Bart Philemon, the man he sacked as Treasurer and Finance Minister, said the claims by Sir Michael of his Government putting in place tight control and holding off on off-shore borrowings could not be further from the truth. “He is the biggest hypocrite. I can’t believe he is saying things that contradict his actions,” Mr Philemon said. “He is the biggest liar,’’ an angry Mr Philemon said in Lae yesterday after reading Sir Michael’s reported comments. He said Sir Michael had tried several times to organise off-shore loans that would have been a burden for the country with high interest repayments for years. “I cannot believe this is the same person that took a submission to Cabinet in 2003 for a $US200 million loan without consulting Treasury. He cooked it up himself. “I refused to sign the submission without his proposal presenting the down side of things. That proposal only presented the upside. “That loan would have cost us a lot in 10 years to repay. The loan would have added 11 per cent more to out external debt and would have added another seven per cent burden on our repayment burden. It would have cost us about K700 million,’’ Mr Philemon said. He said he was so upset at the loan arrangement going against a policy of no off-shore borrowing that he threatened to resign asking Sir Michael’s son Arthur Somare (State Enterprises Minster and Angoram MP) to persuade his father to drop the loan. Arthur met Sir Michael in Brisbane and the Prime Minister abandoned the loan but not after he had re-submitted the proposal, at the backing of his US backers. Mr Philemon also cited the another loan organised through the Malaysian Export/Import Bank to fund the Malalaua to Kerema road in the Gulf Province which he opposed because it was not a priority project and would be a major blow to efforts to hold off on off-shore borrowing. He said NEC discussions this week for another loan of K300 million to fund the Port Moresby Sewerage project by Eda Ranu was something he opposed because it was “morally wrong’’ to spend K300m on 400,000 people of Port Moresby when there were more pressing needs for the majority of the people. Mr Philemon said he felt he had to highlight these arrangements by Sir Michael to qualify why he was branding the Prime Minister a liar.

We don't need community school teachers and radio announcers leading the country--they don't know any economics whatsoever and the country is going down the drain.

Bart Philemon still remains the best treasurer - i doubt "yes, yes" Rabbie Namaliu.
Next Government should be formed by Namaliu and Mekere in leadership!

Somare & All PMs have FAILED this nation
|September 9 2006, 5:48 PM |
Somare has failed this nation over and over again. Dont buy that 'father of the nation crap Anybody could have done that. He was there at the time and with the help of some others got this country's self govt and independence. These others unfortunately have faded from the limelight and he is still there because the unfortunate sepiks are keeping him there.
I suggest you people read the thread by Dr Waine on this Board to find out where Somare and Co have taken us.
