4 Corners ABC - Aids Programme in PNGSeptember 28 2006 at 8:20 AM | A Bop |
| Made Peter Barter looked like any stupid politicians in PNG as he doesn't know or care about RetroViral Aids Drugs sitting in the Health Drug Ware House and people with full blown aids are dying in the Highlands and around the country. By the time the drugs are cleared then it will be expired and be dumped. The reporter didi a good coverage and I am very supprised that there are uncontrolled behaviours of the Highlands Highway Drivers and roadside pubs which house prostitutes. My suggestion is that why can't EM TV get off its arses and go make a documentary like that at least they can bring the fear of reality into everybodys living rooms other then outside TV station promoting such coverage. Very scary in 2020 the desease may exterminate 50% of PNG's Population. God save PNG... |

The current reporters at EM TV are crap. The only reporter that used to do a fair bit of investigative journalism was Titi Gabi and she left EM TV some time ago. I don't know what is taught at Divine Word Journalism but at UPNG apart from the usual media courses, the Journalism students also take a cross section of units from Political Science, philosophy, Public Administration and Economics or Literature as a minor sequence. That is why they write and report better on issues. |

| Em TV needs to do more then that | September 28 2006, 10:13 AM |
Creativity in our own back yard is the game, em tv should be focusing more on - like creating our own funny shows, how to make little business ventures by visiting enterprenuers on the street, visiting the mouth cancer wards and investigate the impact of having no theraphy machines and how many people are dying. If em tv doesnt have money to send journos out of pom then i am sure Port Moresby alone can provide alot of stories in its own backyard.John Eggins tok piksa is one of these kind but its just a tip of the iceberg there are hundreds of issues em tv can ride on which can replace Mclauds Daughters and all these second hand Aussie shows. |

This topic is actually very important within our society! Our media is absloutley terrible. We need to be educated about more important things rather than just being brain washed by garbage shows on your t.v.
PNG needs to pull there socks up and start covering realitiy within papua new guinea, and making it a habit on PNG.. Lets put educational things on t.v and have less drama on the screen. But also balance our t.v screens for both entertaniment and documentry!
thanks.. |

I actually watched the documentry twice. It really hit hard the first time i watched it coz i realised it was all tru FROM the BROTHEL and screwed up PIMP who claimed there was a cure for HIV to the 15 year old protitute. What really pied me of was the part about the RETROVIRAL DRUGS jut wasting away in a shed.
My Perception was definately changed after watching the documentry. It seemed that in the society that I grew up in was a good lie.
Anyone who took that documentry negatively is a good exapmle of why the doc. was so tru and fair. There is nothin onesided about good journalism. |

| Good journalism=AIDS documentary | October 2 2006, 8:39 PM |
Quite the contrary. Good journalism IS with bias, it is somewhat one sided. It is that very aspect that gets people talking, discussing, and angry about what they saw. That in turn gets people to think and maybe gets a few to get off their rear ends and take some action to solve the problem.
A documentary that is completely unbiased and equally balanced on both sides doesn't stir up people to do anything. THAT is ineffective journalism.
This isn't my opinion, it's what you can read in journalism books. |

I thought Peter Barter was excellent in his job but look at how he was answering questions form the ABC Journos. they cracked the ice upon him and he is just the same as other useless Mps. |

EM TV reporters need to wake up and make better documentary's about png issues. Good example is abouts sports reports. All we see is a womans netball in one of the papuan villages.
The police force in Pom or Bomana passing out parade is always on the news. How about the rest of PNG? THERE ARE events & activities taking place nationwide that is affecting the lives of our people but this is not reported, the reporters are sitting ion theirs bums in POM and to make up for it in the news bullitin, they raise over to one on the village games and report that as news.
That is why ABC TV grab the opportunity to come here to do the documentary. We can't blame them for not fair reporting. The report was accurate but the only difference was, possitive actions was net reported.
Our reporters need to be pushed from the back.
The two newspapers reporters need to move to the 4 corners of PNG and report fairly also. Currently they report second hand news that is often inaccurate 50% of the time. Facts are always distorted.

Well reported yes i agree and yes many good issues were raised but at what cost to the nations image.. Im sick and tired of Australia bringing PNG down with bloody ill aimed reports. These type of reports do nothing to the outside world but to further influence their low opinion of PNG... How would Australia feel if we did a report of the Stolen Generation and aired it for all of PNG and who knows who else to see... Do you see what Im getting at?

| LACK OF MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE DISEASE | October 10 2006, 7:22 PM |
THIS ISSUE IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE..THE MEDIA IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL TOOL WHICH COULD CHANGE PEOPLES LIVES AND THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE TOO. SOME OF THE PEOPLE ARE NOT FULLY AWARE OF THE DISEASE (AIDS)THAT IS THREATENING OUR COUNTRIES ECONOMIC, POLITICAL STABILITY, FUTURE,WORKFORCE AND THE LIST GOES ON.I'VE COME ACROSS PROFESSIONAL HEALTH WORKERS WHO REVEALED THAT SOME PEOPLE IN THE RURAL AREAS HAD AIDS BUT WHERE STILL HAVING SEX,,,EVEN THEIR SYMPTOMS COULD BE EASILY IDENTIFIED,,PEOPLE EVEN IN THE URBAN CENTRES ARE NOT AWARE OF IT AS WELL,,IF THE MEDIA PLAYS THE LEADING ROLE IN PROVIDING AWARENESS, REVEAL THE TRUE STATISTICS OF THE DISEASE AND OTHER POSSIBLE ISSUES REGARDING THE DISEASE ,,IT MIGHT HAVE SOME EFFECT ON THE PEOPLES HEALTH,,ALSO THE FIGURES MIGHT DECREASE,, |
