| ‘PM needs long rest’
LAE MP and New Generation Party founder Bart Philemon told more than 5000 people in South Bougainville, that Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare needed a “good long rest”.
Mr Philemon told the people of Siwai, Buin, Bana and Banoni in the southern tip of Bougainville there was nothing more the Chief (Sir Michael) could do.
“The old man’s (Chief) time is over. He is finished and should go fishing. Sir Michael should go back to his village and share buai and brus with his people. This time now is for a new generation of leadership,” Mr Philemon said.
hahaha, I think the old man should contest for council.

Global politics is fast changing and PNG ought to keep abreast with such changes while being mindful of our status as a developing nation (and ofcourse our way of life). Somare did what he had to do during his time. It is now time to hand over the reigns to some up and coming successor to take on from there. He can not continue to rule the way he is going now.
The bottom line is we have to keep up with the modern changes in all facets of local and global politics, economics, science and technology, Information and communication technology and the whole list of changes.
We have to move forward and not being stagnant!
Please Somare... you have to give way in style and dignity, nogut bai yu pundaun na lus olsem Lus!

Somare should needs to retire from his manifold misdeeds.
Here's a partial list of what he has accomplished within the last 5 years.
1. Appointed a junior Sepik guy to the position of Auditor General.
2.Refused to appoint a southern highlander who was a more senior lawyer to the be Anthony General. Fred Tomio has been acting for more than 4 years then dumped.
3. Mafia and grand scale thieving at the Finance Department.
4. Sold Ramu Nickel to Chinese without due consideration of landowners, working conditions, environmental laws and immigrations and labor laws.
5. Authorized 100% increase in accommodation allowances to MPs only, and then refused to entertain Nurses and Teachers accommodation/housing allowance from the current paltry K7.00 per fortnight.
6. Corrupting PNG Forests with full support of Ribunan Hijau. You'll be surprised to know that Patrick Pruitich from nowhere now owns many apartments in down town Port Moresby.
7. Regionalism, nepotism and favoritism is ripe and a BIG HIT with NA in appointments of senior bureaucrats.
8. The US$200 Million Bond Issue with an American Banker. Bart Philemon refused to sign and entertain this when he was the Treasurer.
9.Reducing the parliamentary democratic and debating process into laughable and pathetic sessions with no real intelligent debates.
E10. Put all the State Enterprises into the hands of his son, Arthur Somare as if they are their family business enterprises. (Telikom, PNG Power, PNG ports, Air Niugini and IPBC)
11. Fiddled around with the superannuation fund Act 2000 by reducing the Housing Advance for members.
12.LNG Deal with InterOil
Let's give a good farewell to this overworked chief with a good taste of his own medicine this election.
Astute and Intelligent Voter

All you NA supporters come out of your closet and answer this on scaper. In my district we were denied basic services and any NA candidate does not venture there. All other districts should do that and we will leave the Somare Saga over.
Lapun na liklik rop long het mas tanim pinis (MC). Get rid of Somare and NA, but all the other aspirant canidates and Pollies are much worse than him. Just wonder if the disciples who have understudying the grand thief' might run this country high and dry.

Ya tru ya! Dispela Papa bilong yu Somare he is such a great leader with PNG at heart so he goes to China and does a deal with the Chinese over Ramu Nickel where PNG gets nothing out of the venture.
Unlike Porgera, Kutubu, Ok Tedi, Misima and Lihir where the State (and the people of PNG) get 30% of the venture, in Ramu Nickel, PNG gets zero ownership. This is a first of it's kind, never been done before in PNG.
After that, Somare buys a A$50 million set of exclusive apartments on the Brisbane river in Australia. After that, he gets his sandels removed at the Brisbane airport.
Trupela Chiefe bilong yu, his only interest is his own pocket. It is idiots like you who do not see Somare for what he is, the Greatest and the Grandest Thief PNG has ever seen. |

I dont see any credence in your views, abolutely nothing!! Somare has had his time. Many of his age mates and colleagues have retired and some died, while he is still kicking dust in politics..well, good to have him though as a fatherly and symbolic figure of our great country. While we cannot deny that he has a special place in the histroy of PNG, it would be a total nonesense if he wanted to stretch on for another term... I mean five solid years!! Wow, thats incredible!! Human beings have limits, dont they? How do you expect a very old tiring man who as gone past his usefullness to rule a transitional economy!! Do we not have any young subtitutes? I think we need to be more genuine as educated PNGeans and talk bravely about the future of our country.
I would like to think that the best option for the chief is to gracefully retire from politics and hand over the reigns to someone else. This will be the most honourable thing for him to do. His name will be dignified for two most important reasons.1)taking the country to independance, and putting the country back on track after so many years of economic depression and ending his long career ceremoniously with a umble resignation.
I come from the Highlands of PNG, but I dont care whether the next PM comes from Highlands or Coastal regions, as a patriotic PNGean, all I want to see is someone new and young with vigor, who can speak the language of today and move the country foward in the fast changing world!

She already is a millionaire many times over due to the shares she owns in the Sana Bertha Arthur company operating out of the Sepik. Plus she owns numerous properties in Madang and Port Moresby.
I think the Somare objective is "I will resign when I have removed all health services and quality education to my people and reduce my people back to the stone age."
So I believe he will resign soon. His objective is close to completion!

| Kambanei calls Somare, a Selfish Leader.No score for this post | June 12 2007, 11:22 AM |

PM remarks slammed
THE job of of the prime minister is not thre to be inherited by any particular family but is available to every citizen, irrespective of where one comes from, says former Treasurer Thaddeus Kambanei.
Mr Kambanei was reacting to recent outbursts from Sir Michael Somare over Highlands leaders, Peter Ipatas and Hami Yawariand their capabilities to wrestle the top job from him as he claimed they did not have the numbers. “In Sepik we have mobilised to overthrow him (Sir Michael) out of Parliament. We will do that by God’s grace because we have been suppressed by a single family for so long,” said Mr Kambanei in an interview with the Post-Courier last Friday in Mt Hagen. The New Generation Party candidate for Angoram said, as a Sepik himself, he felt offended and embarrassed by Sir Michael’s criticism of two of the most colourful Highlands leaders. Mr Kambanei added Sir Michael’s days were numbered and they would fall from politics a sad man because he had “wasted” more than four decades doing nothing for his electorate and the country.
“After 40 years of his reign, he has achieved virtually nothing to be proud of as the founding father of this nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kambanei said Sir Michael had destroyed the Sepik people by committing K600 million to the region during election time while PNG was watching.
He described the chief as “a selfish leader” simply making hot air for funds not in the physical framework of the budget and promised the new government would review it.
