Please explain the political processJune 5 2007 at 3:43 PM | Anonymous |
| Could someone kindly explain to me the political process in PNG. Does the leader of the party that gets the most votes become PM or does an individual nominate to become PM and the public votes for that person. I know it sounds like a silly question but i simply don't know.
Thanks,

The person who bribes the most MPs enough to get their support and their vote at the first sitting of parliament becomes the new Prime Minister.
It works like this. First, you need to elect as many people in your party or coalition parties as possible. You do that by stuffing ballots, burning ballots, creating votes out of thin air, or whatever you need to do to come out the winner. It is possible that the preferential voting system that we have for the first time will reduce that problem. Let's see.
After the MPS get elected, then it's bribery time, and process continues as I first explained. |

He probably wants to know the way the political process really works, not the way we pretend it works. |
