It's so funny, every now and then the Oro people seem to be appointing new "chiefs", who all seem to be europeans.
Can someone tell me why?
It seems they still have the "masta" mentality.

I honestly don't think anyone can tell you why. I belive that the role of the chief has changed more dramatically in the last 50 years than it has in the 1000 years. We have been struck with the dilemma of dealing with the transition from chieftan system (for want of a better description\classification) to the market economy, where all are equal and the chief does 'not' stand above all others in the clan. It may be that the 'masta' mentality can provide more for the Oro people than the traditional system can. We must all remember at the end of the day we are all trying to provide for our families. The bigger question is how do we strike the right balance between the new direction in which we have been forced to head (market economy) and where it is that we have come from. What really matters is that we and our families prosper from the new environment from which we have been forced to become accustomed.

Simple my friend. In this global village, the simple trade law of "give and take" comes into play. Give the Europeans the title "Chief" and they will give you goodies. Give it to another Oro and you get nothing. Which one of the two scenarios would you prefer?
