How stupid can Madang people get?

Don't you wonder how stupid people can get? You look at the results of Madang and two people with criminal records are both leading in their respective electorates and THOUSANDS of people voted for them. Ol Madang mas sot long leader? I mas nogat ol save lain tu o. Dumbies voting for dumbies - understand. Ol Raikos ya voted for a man sitting in prison who might not be out to serve his term in parliament should he win. How stupid can people get? Really I am so curious to know how people can be fooled. Is it lack of education? What is wrong with our people in Madang? Can anyone shed some light.

Hi Wantok its not happening only in Madang....it's happening in many other parts of PNG too. Eg, Vincent Awaili Tambul/Nembilyer in WHP - resigned as Minister to avoid a leadership tribunal is running 3rd, Melchoir Pep is another one in WHP found guilty by a leadership tribunal and dismissed, again found guilty and fined during his term in the current regime - people voted for him again this elections, Peter Ipatas found guilty by a leadership tribunal and fined leading the race in Enga, Moi Avei - found guilty by a tribunal, Anderson Aiguru - found guilty and dismissed, Jim Kas found guilty by a tribunal and dismissed and countless others......what's wrong with the people, Gabriel Kapris of Maprik Open in ESP. They just don't realise that these people are found "GUILTY" which means that they have broken the law and are not fit to hold public office of the highest order.

Wantok, I am buzzing of the Europe if these Crooks form next government and come back for the pools in 2012. I cannot live and work under a shameless government which is numb to corruption. And for the citizens, I personally believe that they are given what they vote for - DISINTEGRATION.

He is not like those leaders with corrupt records. PDM suppended him from office is just because of firearms, not for raping or missing using people's money like other leaders.

He is right leader with the vision for this country.

Its interesting to note that a Hagener is leading the Usino-Bundi seat? . The Ramu people living along the main Ramu Highway are some of the dumbest people you can ever find. When it comes to election they just run away and do not vote. I think this people should not be given goverment services, whilst some people in remote raikcos and Bundi and Simbai should be the ones. Its a pity this dumb Ramu's are doing that during the elections.

hey.....yu ting ol hamaspla member stap insait lon palament inosave kuapim sister blo meri blo ol?????? Some of them do and it's not reported in the papers because they do everything under the sun to cover themselves.....

By the way I agree with you regarding James Yali...He should not even get a single vote for rape is not only a serious crime but a shameful act of an inane animal....Shame on Raikos on all those who voted for him.......

But what actually happened that night, we do not know..maybe the young girl wanted it...Nau em money tok ya....I have heard from very reliable sources how certain current MPs taking young ladies out...It's not reported in the papers.....As the saying goes.."yu laik brukim plastic..pleim moni...ol half bek bai setim blo yu..."

You also mention about a second MP leading which obviously is Jim Kas...Well...let me tell you something...He was a criminal, he broke the law of this land, went to jail, served his term and was released unlike all the thieves who stole from the poor and resign or do all sorts of stupidity just to avoid the full force of the law.... Jim em hijacker ya... he was not a thief like all other MPs. The poor people who voted for him are not stupids because they knew he did not steal from them, he was convicted of a crime other than mismanagement of funds. Development is about proper management of public funds( i.e poor man's money) and I can tell you that Jim has a very good record of that that's why people want him back to see how well he can go for the full 5 years ...

You toktok planti tumas..yu fit kam na chalensim em.....Blari mama na hait baksait lon screen na laik chalensim intergrity blo Jim...

Hey - nobody said it was Jim Kas - you said that. You had some good points there though - don't be too emotional about this - you explained clearly that JK served his term for the crime he committed which is fine so I agree with you on that but he still has a criminal record and not you or anybody in this God-Forsaken country can change that. When he was governer he was such a puffed up AH - what makes you think he has changed - OLD HABITS DIE HARD!

Curious,

My apology. I suppose I got too emotional...Once again I am sorry....By the way, I didn't say he has changed. I only said he faced the law...Maybe that has changed him or not I do not know...only time will tell...

I got too emmotional because this country is being run down by theives(white coller thieves inclusive of all MPs) who steal from people and yet the law can not put them behind bars... I don't understand the legal system of PNG, obviously one for the rich and and for the poor.

It is really hard for us poor citizens to survive when there seems to be double standards for all citizens...Is this the beginning of a caste system similar to the one in India????

Apologies accepted and you are right - we should not judge people from what they did in the past - if he is such a household name then it maybe because he has proven something during these past few years. We'll just have to wait and see and also I believe our past does not have to equal our future so this maybe a good thing for the people of Madang - but how Yali got his votes is beyond me. 12 years behind bars and all the court cases - his uncertain future - I still do not understand these people.

Jim did his homework while the rest were doing something else. He literally walked from village to village in all remote parts of Madang and Jim Kas is a household name. He did what no-one else did and his victory will be the prize for his commitment.

As mentioned by anon, he was jailed for a crime and is supposed to have been corrected (that is what correctional institutions are there for) but if old habits die hard, only time will tell.

During his term, alot of good things happened and that speak for themselves. There is no need to discredit this young leader but if there are some potential challengers out there, let us see your true colors.

Vote 1,2 na 3 bilo mi em important na bai mi givim lo man mi sawe bai inap lukautim mi. Not some self elevated moron behind the computer screen discrediting potential leaders.

To curious, It was not my intention to hurt your feelings in anyway from the comments I posted so plis accept my apology.

You rightly said that Madang needs good people to run its affairs and yes, there are alot of good Madangs around; infact all are good, however some hate politics and other interested persons are caught up with doing something else that they don't have the time to consider politics. When that happens, there may be some better Madangs around but the above two scenarios keeps them away from the game.

There is also a lesson to be learnt from Jim Kas and that is the determination he has been demonstrating, leading up to the elections. He made his name a household name and neither you, me nor anyone can erase what has been implanted and conditioned in the minds of our people. If he wins this election, then that is the prize for his determination, commitment and hard work. We also have some very prominent figures running for the same seat and though we would like to see them through, that mandate will only come from our people and if our people decide otherwise, they have decided their fate and we have to respect that.

I am not self-elevating or boasting here but if we are to be leaders to lead our people, we have to go down to the basics. Our geographical knowledge of Madang Province tells us that we are indeed a very unique group of people scattered across plains, highlands, and islands and speak well over 300 languages. In such geographically diverse province, you would expect that not all read newspapers, watch TV, access to radio and internet is not part of that vocabulary. But the good thing about these people is that they have a very good memory and remember those who visit them, chat with them and sleep in their huts.

Some of us maybe highly educated and have seen enough of the world to be able to lead our people along a path to the land of milk and honey, that mandate will only come from our people. While we can be able to speak the global languages, we also have to fluently speak our local dialect to be accepted by our local people, who in turn will give us the mandate to lead them.

Em tingting bilong mi tasol.

Rait tingting olgeta - wanbel stap. You have reminded me through the way you have presented your views that it is true - that our people may not be as exposed to the things we have been exposed to and because of their lack of understanding can be fooled easily - some people take advantage of that and feed them with the information they know will con them and some with good intentions tell them the truth - but that doesn't make them stupid - they, just like all other human beings have the ability to reason things out. If they are greedy at heart they tend to gravitate towards the greedy (I guess that makes them stupid in a sense if they do not think about how this will affect their community)- if they have better values than that they tend to gravitate towards those with a good heart.

I think people should use this board to discuss ways in which we can bring awareness to the people in our villages so that they are better informed and make good reasonable informed decisions when it comes to matters like politics.

Cargo cultists have beat us all in doing this - though some of them are village men - they have mastered the art of persuassion and brainwashing some of us only learn about at school and have never practiced. Even though they do not fully understand how the human brain works they know through experience and history that they can manipulate the human mind. Imagine the reverse effect this could have on our communities if the same art is used to do the opposite. It is possible but hard work so I guess that's a thumbs up for Jim Kas if he has been going to villages and living with the people - I guess he too knows the art. Let's just hope it was used for a good cause.

Cheers!!

Madangs are dumb enough!

July 18 2007, 1:13 PM

Its sad fact in the Province of Madang. To say that people have been not educated is quiet wrong. Discovered in the 1800's by the West and yet Madangs still dumb enough. For instance, I noticed that Ramu Highway people, the Usino's simply run away and can't even vote. They are simply too dumb. If that case happens in remote Simbai or Raicoast, I will understand, but not people who are living along the main Highway. Making 6 different preferential votes is too complex for them, however a bush highlander who can reason that and try all his/her best to vote.

Mental aspirations seems to have been dehydrated from the tropical heat. Wish, mi mangi long whiteline"

Madangs have been very timid and complacent in many aspects of their affairs and consequently outsiders have taken advantage of that soft part (weak area) to their own advantage. There has been no charismatic leader to lead upfront when the going gets tough but all have demonstrated their inability to do so when they were needed. This particular role seem to have been filled by non-Madangs and therefore their recognition as leaders.

On polling day, the votes swing in that direction and when that happens, we Madangs are good at pointing fingers at people and blaming them for our own failures.

I suggest that we let loose or release the aggressive part of us and compete in the open market for leadership, commerce, economics, law, science and technology, agroindustry etc. Let us seek where none have searched to seek answers to our innermost desires to be free. Only then will we be able to compete in this world.

Otherwise, we will continue to sell our birth rights over tinned fish and rice, as other scaper mentioned, and that is an unhealthy sign.... a sign of desparation and insecurity.

Yumi sekim yumi yet pastaim.

Yu tok stret - the first step in creating real change is to look within ourselves - skelim values blong yumi yet and see what values are holding us back then make an effort to change those. That is the only way we can change - other groups of people are real risk takers - they jump head first into the unknown - eg. our brothers from the highlands - some calculate their risks, others don't, but the difference is they take the risks - they TAKE ACTION- we FEAR FAILURE - so we sit back and wait for those that are willing to take risks to come and take it - then we wonder how our birth rights have been stolen. - that in itself is insanity. I think people need to be made aware of "being conscious" of why things happen to them and try and figure out what part of their belief systems is causing that. Everything comes from within - we create our own opportunities - we mess up our own opportunities - we should not be blaming others - it is time to take 100% responsibity - so whoever wins the elections - the people have spoken - there is no point in complaining about lack of services and pointing fingers.

Its really common everywhere in Madang. Their Approach to greetings, their telephone conversations, thier outlook on development all seems to be package and dumped into thin air. Madangs infact are a dumb group of people living in one province. Even a simple phone conversation can tell if the secretary is a dead worm in the office....its just Madangs. Very arrogant and if they were living in somewhere in the Enga Province or somehwere, they will be the most primitive people found on planet earth

Okay people, I think enough has been said and some pertinent and truthful points (and some not so true) have been made, but i ask that we should draw the line somewhere. It is true that the people of madang are somewhat complacent and lethargic by nature, and easily swayed, and as a result many "leaders" have raped and pillaged from this beautiful province. This is a fact. This does not however need re-iterating from the peanut gallery, along with the colourful describing words used to portray the people. Not all of us are dumb and arrogant and stupid. As no one seems to be standing up for us madangs on this board- i will take it upon myself. As countrymen we really shouldn't be sledging the people from other provinces as that just breeds dis-unity and ultimately leads to conflict (something which we obviously don't need right now). Obviously all you people bagging us are not from Madang (and if you are- I ask why?) and I also ask that you worry about your own home provinces before you start nit-picking mine. Not everybody is perfect- and i'm sure that many people (myself included) could find flaws and weaknesess of many people and provinces all over the country. I will respect your opinions, however, bad-mouthing, insulting and the generalising of the majority of the madang population (spawned from minor incidences and assumptions) has no place here. I have faith in my people and I'm sure that wisdom and better judgement has prevailed and and an intelligent and mature leader will be elected. This fact remains to be seen, however- I just ask that you stop abusing, and try to be constructive and positive in some of your comments.

My wantok Lone Voice from KRX,

Your comments are typical of a Madang man/woman and has elements of defensiveness in it. I am also a Madang myself but come from an area you would consider "a backpage". In fact KRX is better off than where I come from. When negative comments are received from people, it is not because they despise and hate us but because they care in some ways and you and I ought to take up such comments and build on in a positive way. We may not like some of their comments, but we must respect their views too.

We dont need to be very protective of who we are or what we are etc and enclose ourselves in cocoons of self pity, timid and complacency but get out and compete in this age.

Politics is not the only way to move our people forward but a part of the whole process. With good political leadership, other good things will come to pass and I whole heartedly agree with you that our people are hardworking and committed in whatever they do. That is one of our strengths which we could tap easily to move forward. Our people will come out of their shells if we all educated and well informed group of Madangs can mobilize and use our areas of speciality to contribute in moving Madang forward for the better.

Ating yumi sindaun/silip inap.
