I FIND it hard to believe that two warring factions could go to the extreme of burning down church properties belonging to the Catholic church in Pina, Wapenamanda district, Enga province. Why are these people doing such things when schools and churches have nothing to do with their conflict? I suggest a state of emergency be declared in Wapenamanda and extended to other trouble spots in Enga to bring the situation under control. Most of the Engan MPs are in the Government ranks now and Engans would like to see their elected MPs stand up for the suffering people rather than being concerned about their personal welfare in the new Government. Show your wisdom as leaders by bringing the situation under control and resolve these conflicts once and for all. – , Madang
Yes, I think they should do that...and make sure other provinces must stop Engans from getting educated in their schools. They should go back and educate their tribes and clansman. Resources waisted in those parts of the country and they wanted to do that...please olgeta arapela lain, if Engans wanted to send their kids to your school, tell them to go back to Engan. That'll be a lesson to all who wanted to burn down schools churches, which these Engan idiots do not have any respect for...
Hei guys imagine this. I once attended an handout school fee session by the man himself, the Engan Governor Right Honorable Mr. Peter Ipatas, at an institution around the country and the powerful atered these words to his students "THE ENGAN PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT IS PAYING YOUR SCHOOL FEES SO YOU CAN BE EDUCATED AND LEARN MORE TO BE GOOD CITIZENS. WHILE AT THIS INSTITUTION CHANGE AND LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO BACK TO ENGA AND BE WARRIORS AGAIN.
Mr. Ipatas seem to know and understand the weaknesses of his province..........but need support from other educated Engans. Change need to take place in those whom people look up to (educated elite).
You may be right from your context but come on how can you stand by and want to see your enemy tribe making an attempt to burn your school. If you really new the real happenings thaan you would understand as for us Engans we are not like the other hihglanders and teh coastal reagionswhere your settle your disputes with puri puri or black magic we are good people who take our anger openly and then we apologise though compensation or shake hands.
You haven't travelled the coastal region enough. Let me give you some light.
Some of the coastal regions (I am saying some)have actually adopted the idea of 'prevention is better than cure'. What I mean is that we try not to create problems at the first place. If problems do arise, we try to solve by getting the parties quickly together to reach a concencous. Compensation is the last thing we think of.
Now for you it is quite different You have compensation there as 'guarrantee' that peace will be made. On that note alone, you can feel free to kill, destroy or do whatever you wish to do, knowing very well that compensation is there and that peace will be restored.
Some of the comments posted here may seem negative but I would consider most of them are from frustrated concerned PNGuineans. Indeed such a sick tradition of tribal fight portrays a bad image on the country generally when published on media. Concerned PNGuineans, tribal fight has been embedded traditionally in Enga for decades.
Burning down of the church and the school, and the students vacating from the lutheran international school sends only one message, 'some part of Enga has slowly become a Sick Society', no respect for Godly Sanctuary, so definitely their human heart is the centre of evil (no need to mention regard for fellow man). If we, Engans keep sitting down and be defensive of a deteriorating culture, in the end there will be nothing but chaos in a 90% uneducated partly primitive society.
Today, some of the so called educated elites of enga are arguing that tribal fight is a way of life for enga, whilst others have advocated ridicule means to eliminate tribal fights. Learnt experience shows that embedded culture change does not happen overnight, it is a process!!
Some of the calls here in this forum are genuine and timely that Engan educated elites have to help rescue your people.
There is a proposal in Enga Wai Pii Forum, fellow concerned Engans see you there.
