Yoyo and puppet grand thief making a fool of himself yet again

April 24 2008 at 2:48 AM
Frustrated

This grand thief is abusing and making a mockery of the office of the PM. He does not trust himself and his decisions anymore. What kind of Prime Minister in the world would go on changing colors and wearing different hats with an important inquiry that involves misappropriation and stealing of millions? If he boasts that the onus and prerogative are his and his alone, why is he flip-flopping every now and then when it suits him? Is PNG is private company to make unilateral decisions as he likes? What is he trying to prove to the people of PNG? Someone, please, tell us the logic here. I am sick and tired of this old fart PM's arrogance.

He should simply resign as Morauta and Philemon have suggested. He's no longer capable of running the country in a transparent manner. The respect and trust for him and his government is dwindling very fast. Now he makes a U-turn with his decision to stop the inquiry just last Friday. PNG won't be surprised if he will raise his demonic head again to stop the commission. This jerk has outlived his usefulness and his expiry date is way out-of-date. Can someone just put something on his swollen face and blow his brain cells out through the back? That would do a lot of justice to PNG who desperately need change.

Yupla yet skelim na tingting. Lapun sipsip ya go lonlon olgeta in his last term in politics na wok long spak na pamuk tumas wantaim ol kongkon stap. He does not give a damn where PNG goes after his last term is up. We need a PM with a long range-vision and can conduct business in a transparent manner. This old dog is becoming a victim of the Asians - a true Asiatic example.

Fed up

Off, and on again
By ISAAC NICHOLAS and JULIA DAIA-BORE
IN a surprise announcement yesterday, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare said the Commission of Inquiry into the Department of Finance, which he stopped on Friday, will resume - and with more scope and assistance.
Apart from widening the parameters of the inquiry, Sir Michael will appoint two more commissioners to assist chairman Maurice Sheehan.
He said he made the decision after studying the commission’s interim report submitted to him three weeks ago.
“It’s a very important inquiry, there are a lot of implications, and there are people, allegations which cannot be put in this particular report today,” he told a press conference in Port Moresby.
“I share the concerns of both Sir Mekere (Morauta) and Mr (Bart) Philemon that this is an important inquiry,”
He said he believed that there should be deeper investigation into many aspects of the inquiry.
On Friday, both Sir Mekere and Mr Philemon expressed shock over the decision to stop the inquiry and suggested that the Prime Minister had succumbed to pressure.
Sir Michael said the terms of reference would remain unchanged and that all staff working with the commission could resume work as soon as the new gazettes were published.
“I commend Commissioner Sheehan and all his staff for their commitment to the inquiry in the face of many challenges and give further assurance that funds will be made available to pay outstanding costs and ongoing salaries,” he said.
“I will make sure that the Budget is appropriated for that purpose.
“There are a lot of delays because sometimes money is not released in time for them and I know the concerns of the commissioner and his committee.
“After consultation with various parties, I understand the constraints that the commission has been facing and will do everything possible to ensure that it goes ahead with the inquiry without further disturbances.”
Sir Michael also said that Mr Sheehan, who is a retired judge, reported directly to him and “not other persons purporting to represent the Prime Minister”.
He assured the public that the materials collected by the commission to date were safe and remained the property of the commission.
“I know sometimes in our bureaucratic system pages, extracts or comments are extracted and I have been dealing with the Papua New Guinean public service for almost 40 years.
“Sometimes some of this information does leak.
“I want to assure the country and people that I share their concern.”
Sir Michael said that under the Commission of Inquiry Act, it was the Prime Minister’s prerogative to appoint, disband or suspend the commission.
“That prerogative is mine and mine alone. It does not belong to any other and is not even vested in the Cabinet, it is vested in me.
“(And) I saw a need to make the inquiry more effective.
“When they recommence, I will give them six to nine months to complete their report.”
Sir Michael gave an “unequivocal commitment” not to disband the commission again.
When contacted by The National late yesterday, Mr Sheehan said he was very pleased that the commission would continue.
“I also welcome the prospect that there will be two more commissioners to assist me,” he said.

He's real out of his head. He should indeed step down. What kind of man is he? I liked him many years ago as our PM who was a good role model but now I have no trust in him anymore. Whoever is influencing him to do all this must stop it. He's growing older and loosing ol his good sences. Looks like we are going wayback to those older days now.....
