The Clement Waine Stars Alliance Party- an internet campaign doomed to failure.May 26 2009 at 12:57 AM
Look at his site if you want to see evidence of a failed candidate whose vision for PNG was up in the clouds and ignorant of the village.
After he got all kinds of people fired up and supporting this pretense candidacy, he disappeared. He let a lot of people down but never once did he give an apology.
He should be ashamed and shamed for what he put his supporters through.

Yeah OK it's a laugh. Looks like he's abandoned the site though. Loser!!!!!
C. W. not a loser

To many of you narrow minded people on this site!
Clement Waine is not a loser. I have not met the guy but I have shared many points of view here on this site and have found him to be a very clearheaded, substantially bright intelligent PNGn. No wonder he is who and where he is now.
This PNGscape is a scary place to come on to now!!!
We can not meet and discuss common interest matters anymore with wantoks without someone jumping out and slurring our names and causing tantrums on this site!
Many visitors to the site are predators who come around waiting to pounce on and kill genuine wantoks who want to discuss subjects of intellectual substance.
I don't believe any of us have abandoned this site, it would be akin to abandoning PNG!
We come around and see 'little nothinness' and a lot of 'hate and gossip mongers' on this site that I for one am so 'awestruck and flabergusted' than I just watch from the side and let this lunacy just takes its natural cause while waiting for sanity to claim this site again
Please moderator, start wielding that "kanda" and allow for likes of Clement Waine and other esteemed and eminent minds to claim back this site!
Dr. Clement Waine, brother, keep your head high...I am one PNGn who is proud of your achievements. Political winners are not the test of intelligence, it is the test of the voters intelligence.

1. If any person feels vilified on this site, and the accusations are wrong they have all the opportunity in the world to defend themselves and demonstrate their character, You, in contrast, promote reduced free speech and more censorship.
2. You are yet another person who expects moderators to take on more work on your behalf while you volunteer to do nothing!
3. You saying that Scape ever used to be better shows you have a very faulty memory.
If people like you would spend less time complaining or withdrawing and more time proactively starting new topics and participating in discussions you believe in, believe me the overall tone of Scape would improve without the need for begging moderators to work harder.
You might find this hard to believe (until you read and learn more about how change takes place in societies) but the people on Scape most likely to contribute to real change in PNG aren't the silent or nice talking ones, but the hard ass critics and annoyingly persistent posters.
That's the fact and that's why I find your viewpoints very naive and shallow.

Grow up and Get real?

You are so wrong my friend-and wrong about Meri Nating.
I cannot believe that you would dare to speak like that to her -you,I suppose, being a wet-behind-the-ears young man.
Many of us read pngscape and no longer bother to reply because of misconception and the tirades that a reply induces.Let alone the accusations that are mostly not even worth defending.
Go in peace-

What you have suffered on the internet I understand but it only occured because you let your true identity become known.
At least two politicians have also been on the internet by name through the years. They ended up running away because of the hard questions directed at them and they could no longer control the situation nor what questions and criticism would be thrown at them. No way should people have shied away from asking those hard questions. I salute those politicians for even appearing on the internet by name (compared to the 99% that would be too frightened to appear) but let's understand that the reason why they became defensive and then ran away was because they were incapable of defending some of their actions to the public. A prime example is Carol Kidu not being able to defend why she remains in the Somare government but won't speak out against the corruption inside it.
Meanwhile, dozens of personalities have dropped in and dropped out through the years. Complaints about internet critics are as old as the png internet. www.vortexpng.com is an example of an PNG internet site that only had "nice discussions" for over 2 years. Check out its status and discover how unsuccessful it was in generating enough visitors to have any kind of active or decent discussions. These results are not just for PNG sites, they're in common to the whole internet.
Meri Wau, you became a public figure just like those politicians (and CW) when you decided to run for public office. Anyone who makes the decision to become a public figure has by default willingly placed themselves under the microscope to be dissected and picked apart. This is no different than what happens to any politician, actual or intending in the democratic world. If strong debate stresses you or anyone else, I wouldn't only consider getting out of the internet kitchen, but out of the political fire altogether.
Frankly I can't understand why people would be so foolish to give themselves away on the internet unless they were hoping against odds to elevate their personal status through their postings. Only a food would deny that the internet is wild west, chaotic, and sometimes near anarchy, not just on Scape but throughout the www. Accept the reality and modify your internet presence accordingly, whinge or or whimp out. Those are the only 3 choices and of the 3, guess which choice results in more influence?
None of my comments apply to personalities who are outed on the internet yet are not public figures in any sense of the word. PNG media personalities, governmeetn buraucrats, and sports figures all fit the legal definition of 'public figure' which are given much lower rights against defamation in democratic countries, compared to truly private citizens.
I notice that you picked on one of my points and basically ignored the majority.
How people are treated on the internet is mostly determined by how they appear and present themselvres.

A big reason why this place degenerates into stupid talk is that there are almost no resource people, experts or true insiders who can inform and educate us. Most of the audience lives outside PNG and we would truly love to know more details about what's going on inside our country than what we can read in the pathetic 2 newspapers.
But the owners, the moderators, and most of the highly educated people who visit this site have no interest in contributing some time to providing information for the benefit of all (especially the youth). They think that somehow we'll just all educate each other even though mostly we're all speaking in ignorance. The result is exactly what you see - repetitious postings with little substance, degenerating into name calling and slander.
Those who could be resource people will say that they gave up because of the nonsense but the nonsense is guaranteed whenthe resource people disappear.
Think about that, smart pipol.

I'll bet some pollies from other countries could take it. Have you ever seen how harsh the questions are against pollies in other countries?
The PNG pollies run away from here or never come because they have very low capacity. Can't think straight, can't defend what they do or don't do and can't take any criticism. They are not competitive against world standards!!!!!!!

Those overseas politicians learn to be shameless just like ours in PNG.

want my credentials?
May 26 2009, 4:01 PM
Please go back on past postings and discussions here, on Kumul Development Forum, on PNGWomen, and check postings under the name 'meri nating' and maybe then you will learn that some of us have actually 'grown up and have learned' and only want to impart and discuss our experience for others here on Scape.
Our brother Clement Waine is one such person I had the previledge to interact with on PNGScape especially his views on biodiversity...well before 'carbon trading' became a fashionable name where everyone is now an authority on the subject..from landowners to beaurocrats, to politicians. Go check the archives you will find intelligent discussions on this subject plus others. That was the reason why I came out to defend the reputation of another brother who has made his name professionally in his chosen field.
I have specialises too in my professional field and on gender, should you want to engage me on that...however, the point is you don't know me and your effort to give me the 'inferiority complex' by asking me to learn more about 'how society changes' is laughable. (please don't pick my spelling error and waste your time pointing that out..I am paying for my internet time unlike some on this site!)
And thanks susa 'Meri Wau' lo sapot blo yu.
Peace, belisi na hopefully wanbel!!!!

Bottom line on Scape participation
May 26 2009, 5:04 PM
I can find 1 common remark through many postings.
We who think that Scape is deteriorating have only ourselves to blame if we don't participate more.
Think about it.
Re: Bottom line on Scape participation

This place (pngscape) gets boring when people don't start new threads now and again.
Please you smart people, start new threads now and again, don't just be content with commenting on old, increasingly boring ones.
The Somare scam of carbon trading.
May 28 2009, 5:05 AM
Carbon trading has opened the door to a new, lucrative level of backdoor money making by the Somare family. They're itching to make money by becoming middlemen brokers and there are millions of kina possible profits in it. Meanwhile, as usual the landowners see almost no return from their resources (in this case, their resources are locked up).
So there you have it - a topic that an ivory tower intellectual opened the door on but never bothered to think through as regards the real life implications. You ever heard of opening the snake box and all the snakes come flying out? It's people like Dr Waine who tend to do this. They have no sense of what's going on behind their backs.

Someone insists on attaching Clement/ and scapers!!!
May 27 2009, 11:57 AM
To you i will say this, please contact Clement and put your grieviances to him. He is no longer a public figure therefore I urge you to stop your nasty comments on this site.
This site is like the primary school class, while the teacher is away the students start playing up.
Grow up all of you and use the site respectfully and discuss topics affecting PNG.
I am too busy with family life and my two jobs so I am not really responsible anymore for this site, and network54 is aware of this so attacking me is for this site is not going to do you any good.
The owner is responsible to this site and I don't have contact for him anymore, so please every one respect others as you would like to in return.
This thread is locked.

Honestly, get real.
The internet all over the world is no different from this place.
You can act like an unmarried school teacher chastising her students but we aren't naive.
We know that all internet sites that aren't moderated will go in many different directions.
We also know that internet sites that are strongly moderated become boring and end up like www.pngvortex.com
www.pngscape.net only survives because it is interesting. It's no different from how tabloid newspapers make heaps of money while the mainstream, boring ones go out of business.
As for Clement Waine, he has never apologised to his supporters at large.
Thus, no matter what he chooses to do in his life now, he continues to owe a public apology to everyone.
Not an apology to the few closest supporters, but to all who went out on a limb to support him and then were made laughingstocks when he disappeared.
This demand for an apology will not go away. Ever.
