| Diplomats should behave

Solomon Star letter
DEAR EDITOR The recent claim of an immoral involvement of a Papua New Guinea diplomat with a high school girl in Honiara must be condemned in the strongest term.
If I could well remember and recall, this is not the first time PNG diplomats had involved in such filthy immoral sexual indulgement as former diplomats were also caught and accused of similar incidents resulting in their recall to Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands are Melanesian countries enjoying cordial and mutual relationship, similar in nature.
However respect is expected from those serving as diplomats.
Diplomats are accorded the highest respect with protocol in any foreign country they serve as ambassadors and High Commissioners.
They are expected to live up and perform to expectation of both his country and that of other countries.
Diplomats are usually chosen/ selected on their ability, competency, character and merits before posting out on foreign mission duties.
They are usually accompanied by their spouses and children for their comfort, needs and convenience to ward off homes sick and infatuation which can be harmful to both the diplomat and damaging the reputation of his country, in this case PNG.
The latest drama in the PNG High Commission office has aroused interests and anger which resulted in the diplomat being man handled. It is sad but necessary.
To entice and solicit young vulnerable girls for sexual pleasure by diplomats or any other responsible human being is thoughtless and must be deplored strenuously.
However, young girls too, especially students need to be truly and practically taught about the repercussion of wrong and premature sex, emphasising that there is no such thing as safe sex, except true sex or moral sex by married couples.
They must not practice safe sex but right sex through marriage.
Premarital sex should also be discouraged.
However, the present climate and atmosphere in social and economical pressures cannot be entirely blamed on rapid social problems.
Those responsible and the mechanism in place, the policy makers, the consultants, the legislators, the complementors, the monitors and assessors are largely to be blamed, so blame ourselves.
Too many workshops, too many meetings, too many seminars with million of dollars spent but little and passive action.
As the saying goes, action speaks louder than words.

Was that Parai Tamei that resulted in the non renewal of his contract by the Govt? He seem to have a track record of changing women where ever he serves. |
