PNG's Somare to retire
Sir Michael Somare says he is retiring from politics in 2012. [ABC]

Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, has told a public gathering he will retire from politics in 2012.

It is the second time Sir Michael has publicly announced his intention to quit politics.

He says he will not contest the next elections in 2012.

PNG's Post Courier newspaper reports that Sir Michael was speaking at a rally to gather support for one of his former deputy prime ministers and member for Kandep, Don Polye.

Mr Polye's 2007 victory has been nullified by PNG's National Court.

Polling for the Kandep by-election in Enga province is next week.

If Poyle loses the upcoming Kandep election, Somare will groom Arthur to be the next PM and he might pretend to retire. If Don Poyle wins, Somare will not retire, mark my words. He will cling onto power just like his Zimbabwe counterpart, Rob Mugage............

somare is corrupt as well as his associates. If the Kandep people are planning to send Polye back to join Somare, we are heading for chaos and disaster!. Mark my words.

Nothing is accomplished under the corrupt somare regime. All his cohorts and him doing was to rape, plunder, and steal from the government coffers. What is disgrace!

Power corrupts

Somare cannot just disappear into thin air. Power corrupts and when he is in power for too long, he becomes senile and losses all the senses to make informed and good judgment for the people. He needs to be removed, he does not know, see, feel and experience the pain and suffering the ordinary Papua New Guineans are going through. He is way too old and become increasingly irrelevant for today's PNG.

He needs a kick in the butt to get the heck out and spend some quality time to do some fishing and hunting back home in Lake Murik.
