From outside observations on the performance of the current and past PNG Government's, our leaders have failed to defend the interest of the weakest Papua New Guineans. The key indicator for this statement is the questionable negotiations into the LNG project in which I believe the people, landowners and govt of PNG have been given 'scraps' to squabble over. Such desperate moves to get the project moving without any proper impact assessment and consideration for infrastructure and socio-economic development leaves a lot to be desired. Time and time again this has been the scenario for major mining projects in the country. I wonder if there has been a case study done on the closure of the Misima mining and the lessons learned from that experience.
Greed, ambition and personal gains have been the platform for most of our MP's with little thought for the very people who have given them the mandate to act on their behalf. Such is unbecoming of a leader.
The time is now at hand for Papua New Guineans to elect leaders that are fighters. Warriors like the late Iambakey Okuk and Malipu Balakau that have made an impact in their short stint in Parliament and are still household names. Their visionary and firebrand political techniques in fighting for their peoples and the country's 'realistic' needs instead of wants like the falcon jet is the only way to bring real progress into the country. Papua New Guineans will salute you no matter where you are from, it's what you do!
The time has come for a Warrior to lead and not some weak character that will succumb to the lures of bribery and luxury and ignore the vital needs of the weakest person in the 'clan'. It's time for a highlander or someone of warrior genealogy in the coastal area to step up and fight to salvage what is left for PNG instead of some meek individual that will hide under his mothers skirt when faced with the enemy. Someone who can sniff out the enemy from under a sheep skin and engage in mental combat to ensure the survival of the 'clan'. I call on you highlanders who are mucking around and creating division among yourselves to step up and take the reigns, for we are of 'Warrior Blood'. Although we have been branded as 'pigs' 'stoneheads' 'primitives' etc... by our fellow countrymen, we know that we were made stronger and more aggressive due to our harsh conditions of living. A weaker men would have perished hence we are more hardier and resistant to tough environmental conditions. Our forefathers have looked the enemy in the eye before applying that final blow and have not killed via the 'backdoor' through magic, poison, sanguma etc... We have the caliber to bring this nation out of its woe's brought about by cowards who marginalize us and build their empires in other countries while making rash decisions on resources that are ours, and will only benefit a minority. When a big pig is slaughtered and mumu'd, equal portion is given to every clan with the understanding that we will benefit from the next mumu by that clan. This has not been the case as others are dividing the portion of our 'mumu' (resources) and are hiding the best parts for themselves and offering us the wastes. I call on PNG's true warriors in Enga, Hela, SHP, WHP, Jiwaka not to compromise like the others have, to rise up and lead PNG!
You have a good point. While I agree with your view on the first 3 paragraphs, the points in paragraph 3 have very high elements of regionalism. That is, all the points in paragraph 3 are highly generalized and debatable. I have lived in coastal and highlands regions for many years and can see that through the flow of ideas in paragraph 3. Please stick to the important point you raised earlier on having a tough leader.
On spot...regionalism is killing the growth of PNG. We can put in the best perspective of how we see things and what ought to be done but inside us is a enemy that will bring ourselves down. The pride and ego that has been passed on from generation to generation will be hard to evaporate unless we do a reality check on ourselves.
PNG will change for sure but for that change to happen, someone has to prove to all PNGeans that s/he has a genuine heart to see a changed country. Not someone who rides on the waves of using cultural examples to justify their weaknesses in gender distribution.
A true PNG leader will possess a heart to serve and treats all human beings as equal and their actions speaks for itself.
By the way; there isn't a leader as yet in PNG since 1975. Everyone can be seen as some sort of dictators.

How about someone qualified....why the regionalism

I would argue... forget this rubbish regionalism and aggressive warrior garbage... there were great warriors amongst our forefathers - both in the islands, coasts and highlands.... but ...we need someone who is qualified (skills, knowledge, character) and has the tenacity to take on the role of PNG prime mister and all the challenges which come with that role. Someone benevolent and consultative, that has the interest of all citizens in their interests down to the grass roots. The last thing we need is rash... hot headed 'warrior' throwing words and stones around in a reactive manner rather than someone proactive and problem solving in a manner that benefits all. We do need someone with the balls and integrety to stand up and make educated decisions in the interests of all the people of PNG - that to me is a real 'warrior' in this global new age... a defender of their coutntry and people - Man or woman.
I agree we need to consider the country's 'realistic' and 'priority' needs instead falcon jets.
I agree that there should have been detailed EIS done...if one wasn't done.. is there any international law that requires this? But at the same time they do have some positive social ideas like using villages along the main road to provide local produce to supply the workforce, which they are implementing. I agree that a risk and opportunity review integrating lessons learnt and participation from these companies and other key industry and community stakeholders/representative should have been undertaken, if it had not been undertaken... if it had... this is a private document and unless mandated by law to be made public... they have no requirement to make it public.. unless it forms part of a legal investigation and it can be used to demonstrate .... lack of negligence... someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Do we have the regulatory infrastructure in place to provide both guidance and capability for enforcement?... because without that... all the EIS's and agreements in the world will not be legally binding...can someone enlighten me.
Read carefully my foolish friend. You fail to understand the concept that is being highlighted. Mandela led his country SA from freedom of Aparthied in a different way... by being patient! A virtue of a true warrior, and he was of warrior and royal blood being the son of the third wife of the paramount chief(from the Xhosa Nation - meaning 'fierce') but he was fighting a battle on an unfamiliar battlefield and he succeeded. FYI...
Misconception is a real problem for everyone of us..even one chooses to write
on a certain topic and or air out his/her frame of mine will always have a two fold
interpretations of it..here im also minfull as a write that mine will also be criticized
by others..
well, according to my point of view about warrior pm...at first i was astonished by first the word
"warrior" the word sounds something of aggressive in its connotations which will quickly reveals division instead of addition in png especially when its ideals are consolidated into PNG politics.
While many may not agree with the writer of a warrior pm;including my self, but we must first begin with a hard truth..we will never eradicate conflict, violence and corruption in our life time;nevertheless,we must try as much as possible to reduced those prevailing law and order problems and corruption to a more manageable level.
Peace price winners like Mandela and Ghandy's creed and life experiences may not be practical in every circumstances, but the love that they preach; that must be the nor - stars that guides us through our journey to freedom and equal opportunity guided by the rule of law .that is,
free from want.
However, we cannot just be guided by Mandela's and Ghandyi's examples and experiences alone..
we must face the world as it is,in this case, our country cannot be continue to be ruled by
tyranny and oligarchy which seems apparent and we all know, tired, and sick of it.
Judiciary is incapable of prosecuting, ombudsman is flawed, RPNGC cannot revealed the Ministers invoveled in Kapris case, finance inquiry watered, moti saga,Rampant missuses and corruption of
public funds just to name a few......when i begin to list Im am watered with anger and stops at anger..that is it..although i may not agree with a warrior pm but,I cannot help it..I want it now, right now in png..a warrior pm who has the heart of the people and the country at heart..A warrior pm who will really ensures past pm, former mp's ministers and public servant languishing in gaol(jail).
clear ride there can be a warrior pm and we can strive for justice
hertz...well said! I share similar sentiments with regard to your last paragraph. I know it's possible to put all MPs post 1975 in gaol, where evidences haven't been cooked.
PNG will surely change; just need one good person who has a HEART for the people.
