arthur has delivered the gas project for China's development

July 4 2010, 12:47 AM

listen you negative people out there, somares qualification is irrelevant when he will complete his 3rd term of parliament shorlty.thats 15 years of dedicated service to enrichening his personal pocket and those of his family, plus buying the retirement house in Cairns that was no small accomplishment.along the way he delivered the png gas project with help from the ipbc ceo.that project will deliver raw gas to China to power thousands of factories and create tens of thousands of jobs while back home in PNG the estimated number of total needed jobs once the LNP project is on line is about 300. Arthur now transforming the economic landscape of png into one of poverty bu creating wealth and jobs for our politicians and lets not forget how much money Paul Paraka has made off the Somare government. no govt has achieved or come close to that level of corruption, nepotism and giving foreigners our PNG resources for the price of a song since 1964. so who gives a **** what somares qualifications are.obviosly he is qualified becos he has delivered it doesnt matter what he delivered or even the consequences, delivery is enough by itself.talk all you want.the points are up on the board for all to see and benfit.including the moronic Chinese who arent blind to the temptation of our pollies and know whose pocketes to put the money in. somare is a champ and he's rich too.

Re: arthur has delivered the gas project for png??

July 4 2010, 9:00 AM

Arthur Somare is like most Papua New Guineans, he sees a foreign investor wave a K2 note in front of his face and he jumps for joy saying that development has come to PNG. He is completely blinded by that K2 note, doesn't realise that the foreign investor is keeping K98 for himself!

Only Moronic Fools Suck Eggs!!!

July 4 2010, 3:16 PM

If this is the way an Arthur Somare supporter speaks and thinks; then it is a sad indictment of the Treasurer and his supporters.

Such tunnel vision as yours is the reason PNG is buggered; you keep allowing people who are not qualified to run the country and actually support them. You are killing PNG with ignorance and arrogance; whilst supporting a small group of mega rich politicians who have sold PNG to foreigners and kept the vast majority of the purchase price for themselves and their families.

Sadly; many PNGs don't even have the opportunity to "suck eggs" as you say; because they live in abject poverty and can't afford to buy an egg. WHY??? because of lousy Treasurers and their smelly supporters, who deliberately promote policies of neglect in order to keep the people suppressed.

Open your eyes and your brain; maybe a slither of enlightenment may come your way; I pray to God it does before all of our children are permanent slaves of foreigners, and we have nothing left to call our own.

whilst u are busy trying to find flaws in the greatest achievment by any single minister since micheal somare achieved independence, economic growth has reached 6-7%, higher then any government in our history.if jobs are going abroad, its because silly png citizens like you are unqualified lazy bludgers who simply have no experience in the gas industry.wake up morons.learn to walk before you run.ofcourse arthur would prefer that png citizens get the jobs.but first thing first.get the project going.that will bring in qualified expats who will train you silly buggers.

authur somare i as a businessman salute you sir.you delivered a USD$16 billion gas project to png (australias biggest gas project is worth $USD 35 billion for comparison purposes).let these ignorant dogz who are jelus of you achievment keep barking at your might feet-give them a backkik sometimes-they simply dont undertsand the achievment that your government has delivered.

finally, all these jelus bloggers have completely ignored the fact, that political stabilitry provided by you & your father has been the platform from where great things have been achieved in the last 7 years since 2002).arthur your a champion mate.every expat & png baseed businessmen know what you have done for them & png....now lets hope the corrupt O.C. get their facts right and acknowlege that you have infact submitted all your returns on time & your DSG has been fully aquiited-unlike sir mek & the other A-teamers! yo.way to go!

You have obviously sucked a bad egg

July 5 2010, 1:19 PM

It would seem that you have sucked your own rotten eggs and become delusional.

Loyalty to a Minister whom you admire is quite admirable; but when you fail to see anything outside of your own small world; you lose the ability to be objective.

You claim that every ex-pat and businessman in PNG loves Arthur for what he has done. That statement alone damns him for what he has done: looked after ex-pats and businessmen. They are not allowed to vote for him; he is not supposed to be their representative; he is not meant to be there to keep them happy.

The treasurer's mandate is to look after the people of PNG (the ones you call silly buggers); he is meant to improve their lives by protecting the resources of the country and ensuring that the "people" benefit.

Generally; history has shown that what benefits the big businessman/foreigner, does not benefit the "people": and visa versa. The best interests of the people are not usually compatible with the best interests of the foreign investor/businessman (RH is a glowing example).

Unless the Minister is BOTH: Highly educated and successful in the field of Economics; and MOST IMPORTANTLY, he genuinely has the best interests of his "people" above his own.

Would you lay your life on it "Mixed Race Ex-pat"????

ok mum we take your point, which is valid but is a simplistic view on the role of MP's.infact, i detect you mean well for png citizens, it comes across with your rationale but unfortunately, the role of each & every leader is to first & foremost put the national interest first! thats right png comes first before even the electorate and voters.thats democracy man.take it or leave it.so keeping the economy alive with the gas project creates thousand s of jobs for png citizens.

He has delivered service to the people. He is a hard worker and has no time to read this Blog.
Just because the Surname is Somare does not disqualify him from the job. Arthur is an individual who was mandated by the people 3 times and not handpicked by his Father to enter parliament.

Why is it that most countries, the people themselves choose what is best for their country, even in countries that have high Christian population. Yet here in PNG we leave it to "God almighty" to choose for us.

Maybe this is the reason why we get the leaders and governments we do? Because we're so lazy we're waiting for God Almighty to do everything for us?

Think about it. Your kind of attitude may be our biggest problem.

Kavieng Mangi,

Do you mean to say that New Irelanders can go into "special" relationships with Sepiks or generally the people in power for development's sake? How cheap, can you demean yourselves for your Buliminsky Highway or any other dignified New Ireland project? Do you suggest to other provinces that New Irelanders can choose to be political pamuks? Come on...

Though Arthur em tambu blo ol New Ireland, get it right, as your Tambu, he is obligated to financing the karanas road by virtue of being the Minister in power. That needs no re-emphasis.

If you need to support him as a Tambu, okay, we will accept that, but that is a reserved political and professional matter that current seating New Ireland politicians need to exercise or discharge.

Suggest that you start praying for your Tambu, you never know whether he is ever going to help New Ireland any more again for the current turn of political movements now underway. He needs your faithfilled prayers badly now.

Only the God of Heaven will ultimately save your Tambu from Sepik and God can help New Ireland as He has abundantly blessed in so many other known and unknown ways.

You got to genuinely pray to keep safe politically from all cheap allurements.

Dont Blame Aurthur Somare

July 14 2010, 10:45 AM

Expat is very right in his points of arguments. We (PNGans) tend to sensationalize issues and blame every corrupt deals single handedly on either the PM or The Minister Author Somare. Just because they are Somares, that's not good enough! That lives me to conclude that PNGans are very emotional thinkers. No matter how the government changes the catalyst of change is we the 7million people. To my judgment these rebellious and obnoxious remarks against Author is very shallow and sloppy. I am NOT his follower however I give credit to where it's due regardless. Our negative thinking will bring this country back to the doom days of our great grand fathers.

If we have been doing readings outside the box we will noticed that the state of Queensland is predominated by gas reserves and has the potential to dominate international gas market coupled with Ozzies international market reputation compared to small country like PNG that is yet to built more intentional standing in terms of trade. So why are we blaming all Fiasco on Arthur. Are we ignorant and acting like fools with inferior complexities gulping every farce created by media and here say street talks? Some of us have done zilch to lure in Intentional Investors. The PNG LNG gas has its competitive edge because it is TIMELY. Thanks to all PNG brains behind this project.

Mum has valid points and I do not excuse her for blaming Aurthur coz mum like all motherly hearted, "house keeping" is priority number one! However when we don't have means to an end the house/PNG can be in disarray. Aurthur has just at least provided means to our end.

We need money to negotiate and plan other developments in other sector and LNG will provide that.

Most will blame Aurthur for Corruption but I guess if we take a microscopic view on the history of corruption in PNG, we will noticed that it was there right from the Independence day to the current. Look at it that way... with the increase in government revenue which the current government generated corrupt practice is now more vivid and public is aware of.

For the young fellows in PNG...don't forget the same old bureaucrats are still holding higher offices during past governments and currents government. Maybe recycling around the floors of Waigani.
Believe it or not most corrupt practices are done by these executive arm of the government and not the legislative arm of the government as we see and tend to blame. So if were are to root out corruption the simple solution is to work hard rise up in whatever org one is employed with and make a difference. Dont sit back, relax and blame everything on the current government. Even if the government changes we will always find ways to blame the new government for all our miseries..which is not right...em liklik baby tintin blo me tsol

Rather than moan and whinge about these things, can't we all just do our part to get into office so we can live the life of comfort ourselves? The back door is open to each and every one of us it is only up to us to take some advantage of the opportunities. Those who don't want to take advantage, well go on and sink in your sea of jealous thoughts.

Leave the Somare family to their wealth and worry about your own abilities to stay poor or get rich.

Somare was colonized, Aurthur shouldn't

July 24 2010, 6:35 AM

For the mix-race and other somare supporters. Who seem to view the future and trend of development of PNG and know the economics?

YOUR VIEWS ARE NOT OF PNG , IF YOU THINK THAT IT IS THEN THATS A COLONIZATION PRACTISE FROM THE WESTERN WORLD WHICH YOU WANT TO IMPOSE.

You having the theory of development and concept that most expats have in common about PNG. You must understand PNG. No wonder you are mix-race and have no full knowledge of PNG. The idea that you have and your like minded people are imposing poverty in PNG. Now, you will ask? How? You'll say, this mindset is putting in the best economic practices? Simply, lets put it this way.
Bulks of the PNG people are not ready for a rapid change, because they can't participate due to basic development issues, which of course a fundamental to progression. Somares are not doing that?
People like you and bounce of semi educated PNGs like Aurthur Somare will colonize the bulk of ignorant png population. Its matter of time and the intellect will catch up.
Aurthur Somare is doing exactly what you think is right for PNG, not the kind of development this country wants. Rush unplanned development project like the LNG which is a suicide for PNG. A fine example of your mindset is? Can you control the high cost of living in POM with low salaries and very high rentals of property in POM lately? Who is suffering and pushed to the settlements like morata from Boroko and down town? Who come and occupy prime land and luxury homes in POM and take advantage of the LNG project? Take the ratio of the 6.8 million people of PNG against number of expats occupying those luxury homes. People like you who are pushing Aurthur Somare have suppressed this nation. The somare family is pushing so hard with or without realizing that the bulk of PNG is not ready. I do not support the negative, semi educated people on this forum either but definitely planning, management and leadership is absent, and who is the boss of PNG now, of course the Somares. The people of PNG have yet to grasp the concepts of development change and it must come within and not from outside. For now, its harder to convince the bulk of PNG ignorant who are running on emotions against old learned theories of colonization and suppression and thus creating poverty and make slaves out of developing countries. Get their good out of it and leave them to poverty.
Your ideas or views of development will work only when the foundations for such development are ready and set. Provide the basic human needs by way of facilitating through realistic basic development in rural areas of PNG before applying the theory of economics youve been consumed with,
I forgot that 6 million of png will watch helplessly while less than 600 000 will reap the real benefit of PNG LNG which somare is pushing.

Somare never delivered PNG

July 23 2010, 10:07 PM

It seem you are not sure what you saying and I see you are blind in what you seeing. Junior Somare delivered nothing for PNG and instead building his own empire overseas. It was that the timing of the change in government was right that enabled Somare's noises. It was the right timing the exploration done overtime over the years came to fruition during the time of senior Somare's regime.
Any government could have done that - delivering LNG.
In fact Mekere was the best prime minister PNG has ever produced, regardless of the blood shed, he has implemened reforms and the best one was the financial institutions and contributers are really reaping the rewards now. In addition Mekere has allowed democracy to prevail by allowing students to protest strongly against other reforms he was trying to implement, but Somare cant allow any protests of similar nature. Now is that Democracy?

ARTHUR SOMARE - A FAKE POLITICAL TROPHY!

July 29 2010, 5:01 AM

I've read with interest the various arguements about Arthur Somare on this forum. I totally agree with the sentiments expressed by the author who first raised this topic. The fact remains that Arthur Somare and the other Somare's (Sana; Bertha; Michael Junnior; others I don't know) and their "hoodwinked parochial" supporters can't deny is this: the Somare's have always had a Silver Spoon in their mouth since year dot! And who paid for the Silver Spoon? The public taxpayers of PNG, of course!

Now let me get this straight to you one-eyed parochial Somare supporters out there. Arthur's rise to political prominence is not because he is articulate nor smart but for the simple fact that he clings onto the end of his father's "Sulu skirt" with the Silver Spoon still sticking out of his mouth like a lollipop.

Furthermore, Arthur surrounds himself with these old Chinese tradestore owners from Wewak who have adopted an appropriate Sepik musical instrument to call their company, "Garamut". Another person Arthur, Sana and Co. associate themselves with for counsel and advice is an old Colonial Fart from Australia who Arthur has installed as Head Supremo of IPBC. It is not difficult to identify who these so-called advisors of Arthur Somare are. They are Jimmy "the cricket" Cheung & Danny "the money launderer" Cheung and the IPBC Supremo, Glenn "Sickie" Blake. As we all know now Jimmy & Danny use their Boroko Foodworld supermarket as the biggest National Alliance money Laundromat in PNG. These are the very people that Arthur can claim to have received his qualification from. Some great university with a lot of credibility & philosphical ideas!!!!! (*** hint, hint****).

It is absurd for these parochial supporters of Arthur to claim that the time he has served in Parliament gives him the qualification to be an expert on oil; gas; mineral resources etc. Can they also say with all honesty that the millions of kina in wealth Arthur has accumulated during his term in Parliament was made "in an honest days work??" These hard hitting questions need to be asked before anyone can convince me in the Waigani Swamp without a doubt that Arthur is the best qualified politician to drive the LNG project over the line.

I bet other politicians with credible qualifications (if given half the chance by Arthurs father) would have easily taken the LNG project over the line(e.g. William Duma; Dr Puka Temu; Dame Carol Kidu etc).

Arthur had an easy career in Parliament. He didn;t earn his stripes the hard way like all the other politicians. All he did was change the Silver Spoon in his mouth every morning and had a new one inserted into his mouth by his father.

Even if Arthur Somare becomes PM, he cannot disregard laws like his Dad

July 30 2010, 9:14 AM

Hi,

I for one can not disqualify neither discriminate on Arthur Somare and his siblings and their upbringing but only time will tell whether they were rightly placed or whether they were worthy of their places and calling.

The most important thing I want to see is their respect for the law of God first and equally how they tolerate and respect the laws of this great land.

Even if Arthur Somare becomes PM, he can not disregard laws like his DAD. The bible is littered with so many sons of Bible Kings who had become worse than their Fathers when they inherited the thrones of Kingdoms.

We understand and appreciate that he is a running prince but if the writing is on the wall for him not to be, it is also in his interest to position himself quickly and take the humiliating course by being even more humble now than ever.

Death and disaster finds all, him and his siblings are not above calamity and should never exclude God from their want for more power.

My simple job is to pray that God's hand is in our favour regardless of who is PM. In fact Arthur's siblings are friends to me but I have never ever spent any of their money neither ridden any of their vehicles or eaten their food. I just respect them because they are the children of my Prime Minister of the day.

I will stop here.

God Bless PNG.

If Arthur is such a great leader, as you seem to think, then why are the majority of Papua New Guineans living in poverty?????
It is a country that has great wealth, but only a very small part of the population are benefiting from that wealth; the Somare family being part of that.
The hospitals are absolutely disgraceful; the schools are not worthy of housing human beings; the people are starving and uneducated; hundreds of thousands are living in settlements because they don't earn enough to pay rent; the list goes on.
Exactly who has Arthur helped; aside from himself and his own family??????
He is tarred with the same brush as the father; a usurper of power that is rightfully the power of another Sepik family.......even his claim to being a Grand Chief is false........
They stay in power because of the support they "buy" from ignorant people like yourself. You even deride 'dirty harry' because of his lack of education; most PNGs are uneducated because of the Somare rule. Regardless of education; dirty harry at least has the good sense to be able to pick a bad leader when he sees one; and it is his right to do so.
The Somare Government deliberately practise policies of neglect, in order to suppress the people. They figure that if the people are poor and uneducated, then they won't be able to rise up and take the Somares on. They are wrong; dirty harry is proof that the people are warriors and will take Somare on, with or without money and an education.
Within a very short time, the Somares will be stripped of their ill-gotten power and wealth; and their supporters will be banished along with them.

DIRTY HARRY OF WAIGANI SWAMP

SOMARE STOOGE

July 30 2010, 9:16 PM

To "Believer of Geniune Leader" who responded to my comment about Arthur Somare like an angry crocodile. You are probably so sore that you accuse me of blasphemy to the Somare household & want to send me off to exile in hell (I just hope you are not a Catholic priest!). Your emotional outburst makes me think that you are probably an illegitimate child of Grand Chief M Somare born out of wedlock from his marriage to Lady Veronica.

You are right, I belong to the sewers of Waigani swamp and love it. My Mother sells vegetables to make ends meet and my Father is an ex-policeman who served his country with distinction for more than 45 years. And by the way, I use cheap Chinese aluminium spoons to eat my meals. In fact, from my run down family Housing Commission fibro house, I can see your elaborate bedroom at Mirigini House which as you know is paid for us poor PNG taxpayers...,So if the truth hurts about your half-brother, then so be it! PNG politics is not about the faint-hearted, its a game for the big boys so if you can't take it then go back to your glasshouse where its safe and comfortable for coconut heads like you.

As an illegitimate child, you are narrow minded & carry an empty brain in your skull to match it. If Arthur jumps off the edge of a cliff, you will follow him without any hesitation. The writing is on the wall for you and your Masters! The time is near, get ready to exit the comfort of your public funded ivory tower..., gat mo!

Right On Dirty Harry

Well, well, well. Well said Dirty Harry (I guess someone with a lot of intelligence). At last, someone had the nerve to finally hit the nail on the head. Arthur and the Somare's and their cronies minders from Boroko Foodworld remind me of the fake people in the book: "Catcher in the Rye".

Hey, Dirty Harry - piliz o! Welcome back home & lukim yu long Waigani market. Your comments are spot on. So can we give Arthur Somare a new title as you seem to have stirred a hornets nest with your fact of the matter opinion. I think we should call Arthur the "Lollipop politician" because I too am not sure what his qualifications are.

For his father to give him two powerful ministry's is akin to Barak Obama appointing the US Drug Lord from Texas to become the head of the World Bank & the IMF! As you rightly say,; it would be good for the Ombudsman Commission to check out the NA money laundering business that is managed by these cross-eyed maggots at Boroko Foodworld. Mi les na mi go silip nau...,

Anonymous, my comment is to the persons calling each other names, not to a person swearing at a politician.

Somore deserves what he gets, just look at PNG as a Nation. Aren't you a shamed that most of pngeans are living in poverty despite of their works?
People in good jobs don't earn their rightfull wages, all get paid 1/4 of the full wages the rest is pocketed by their bosses.

Somare was good when he first became a prime minister on PNG, other times he just got greedy and forgot about what he stood for.

How do you think PNG is going to get pulled out of this calamity now?

7 mile beach thankyou! you have restored my faith in pngscape by printing my comments.i agree with you that somare was good when he started then became ineffective after arrogance built in over time.then corrupt ministers took the frontline and i agree should have been removed some years ago.especially types like mr pruatich who the oc have nailed anyway.we hope.but there are still several questionable ministers still in his government like peter oniel who have tainted the somare name and even given rise to somare being involved in their crooked deals.if somare or for that matter, any other pm is involved in corruption, i agree totally that they must face the law.but lets make sure we have the full facts first pls.i suppose it comes down to this, political stability was possible because somare gave all parties a job and ministries.he even turned a blind eye to corrupt deals that may have occurred.as a result everyone was happy and projects like lng were able to get off the ground.so maybe the price we have to pay is that somare tolerates abit of corruption for the sake of political stability and growth in economic activity.not the best way to govern i agree but no bloggers have provided a realistic alternative that i have observed so far.

Hello Anonymous in Cairns,

Do you have any political rights whilst residing in Cairns? If you do, I pray that you run for a political office in Cairns and become elected. Next, if you have too much money, you spend your Cairns generated money on property here in PNG to allow your constituents in Cairns to equally appreciate where the hell their political leader is spending their elected money, their elected time and his personal money and his personal time. Next as we celebrate your success in political office, with the right travel visa, all our PNG compatriots would descend in to Cairns to stay there with you for multiple indefinite stays like done here in Port Moresby. No worries you foot all the bills during our stays in Cairns.

For Arthur, if it is Arthur Somare's personal money, I salute him for spending it in Cairns, that is his personal prerogative, let him spend it there. I would do the same too if it was my personal money. I would spend my money and my time gambling at the Cairns Casino surrounded by girls serving me at the topless bar every second night. I would enjoy all the other night bars around the Esplanade and Pier area. I would get Swedish, Japanese, and sexual massages four times a week. I would enjoy snorkeling once a week. Drive up to the Tablelands, drive to Townsville and watch the Cowboys for their local NRL games at the Dairy Farmers, drive to Port Douglas once a month, enjoy my golf and God knows what I would eat, drink and who I would screw around with if the massages are not enough.

Regardless of the above, I pray that God Blesses Arthur that he becomes more wiser in all his conduct and be better than his Dad our current PM.

Hello?
