Police arrest former MP
By GRACE TIDEN
FORMER Madang MP Alois Kingley was arrested in Kokopo last week for an outstanding criminal case involving the National Housing Corporation.
Mr Kingsley was arrested soon after appearing at the Kokopo Committal Court for his alleged involvement in the K125 million sovereign community infrastructure treasury bills (SCITB).
East New Britain Provincial police commander Superintendent Sylvester Kalaut said Mr Kingsley was charged with misappropriation and conspiring to defraud the State after he was accused of conspiring with former National Housing Corporation managing director Paul Asakusa to enable him (Kingsley) to get K50,000 from NHC in 2007 for his own use. Mr Kalaut said Mr Kingsley never attended his district court committal hearings soon after his arrest and so a warrant was issued for his arrest in 2009.
He said the warrant was not executed because police had found it difficult to locate Mr Kingsley in the last three years.
However police were finally able to execute the warrant due to his ongoing committal hearings in Kokopo in regards to the K125m SCITB funds.
Mr Kalaut said Mr Kingsley was now in police custody at the Kokopo Police Station and it was now up to his lawyer to sort out his bail application. |
