Hi all, just found this site. Well ive read a few comments on this town, some good and some bad. I lived here just by howe road from 98-03 and will say this, this is the best lil town anyone can live in for peace and tranquility. Like any other town / city, yes it has its problems and issues but over all which other town can you say that has the scenery , walks , and greenery that is kilsyth. I had to move out for work reasons but my dream is to get back here asap or whenever practical. The saying is 100 percent correct that you never miss something till its gone, and this is how i feel. The folk are fantastic. Just dont ever let the big commercial institutions ruin your beautiful town, its own unique character is what makes it what it is,,,,cheers all.

Hello Tommy Morrison: your description of Kilsyth hit my feelings right on the head. I left Kilsyth seventy years ago, at the age of eleven.I went back sveral times for visits, but it is not like going home for good.That is what I am preparing to do now.Besides being the best little town there is,the people of Kilsyth make it what it is today. They are loving,caring,and genuinely friendly, and I am so very proud of being a SCOT.Kilsyth never left my heart. Hope we shall meet someday when you return to the small piece of heaven called Kilsyth
Best regards BETTE

hello all----------nice to hear you are coming home bette-will look out for you;
the town is looking good; and a lot of work is being done at colzium with a new playpark near compleation-----but why are we still fighting wimpey for the calvary park site-when a fortune of public money was spent on this only a year ago---
does the verdict of that enquiry count for nothing--and why would any community vote to close any hospital----grrrrrrr woof woof;

I hope Bette doesnt mind my posting this - i received it today....
After waiting seventy years,to return to Kilsyth Scotland. Dreaming all these years of my beautiful little town,I hope I!am not returning to the littering of little Wimpey houses spoiling our enviroment,taking away the beauty of our homeland.
My Grandfather Joseph Black was a fighter in his day for the rights of people and the hard working men.He led the Hunger Marchers from Glasgow to England in 1926 He was chosen by the marchers themselves,to be their spokeman in the House of Commons Fighting for the Miners. ,and their rights for better conitions in the mines.They chose him ,not only was he the oldest ,but was not afraid to speak out.THE WON THEIR CASE>I am not afraid to speak either. I vote NO to Wimpey homes in Cavalry park.Wimpey take your money and GO BACK TO WHERE EVER YOU CAME FROM .Come on Kilsythians say NO.

Old, peaceful & tranquil at one point maybe....but now, in my eyes, the town is a wash with junkies (hanging around the main street constantly, frothing at the mouth), neds, and worst of all nosey b*stards who know more about whats going on in your life/family than even YOU do! and for somewhere thats not a kick in the behind off of 12 miles from glasgow, it has the worst bus service ever.
Kilsyth is a great place to live, but not to do anything else. I travel to other areas constantly and never spent time here in the community, other than to sleep because it annoys me so much sometimes.
Sometimes, I'm sure the league of gentleman show was actually based on kilsyth.

How many fast food shops & hairdressers does a town this size really need?
Theres 7 places to get your hair cut and 7 fast food places that I can think of off the top of my head, and thats just kilsyth, not including a few miles up the road in cumbernauld.
I think it comes down to greed, all these people are doing are stealing buisness from each other, theres NO MORE EXTRA buisness to be gained out of kilsyth from these areas, all its doing is spreading the income around 7 places.
Silly silly silly silly silly.

Since you did not put your name or any name for that matter to The post of your views of Kilsyth,I suppose you do not want to be known.Your views and your feelings are yours.I am not going to let anyone detere mine .I am still coming Home to MY KILSYTH. If the town and the people are so offensive to you, why don!t you leave. I am sure that there is a bus running about every twenty minutes or so, going in either direction.My grandfather used to say )Quote_ If you don!t have anything good to say about some one or something,sometimes it is best to say nothing at all.....HURRY or you will miss the bus.

How many do we need: - well of coutrse thats up to the businesses to decide, but....
Population is 10,000
Estimated average individual spend on haircuts per month = £20 (many ladies spend much more than this)
Income from hairdressing per annum: = £240,000
Answer = we need one very rich hairdresser working all around the clock or 10 reasonably sensible ones earning 24k each.
but its a free country, so who exactly is supposed to stop them all from setting up shop?
Fast food.
This depends on how often peaople need fast food, which is in turn dependent on price, speed, quality, employmernt levels, convenience etc.OK I picked up a kebab from Dhillons tonight at 11.30 pm after a couple of beers. Does that make me a bad person? If everyone in work (and their families) has one carry out per week or so I reckon we need at least one restaurant per 1,000 residents, so we are probably about right.

First off, I'm not really sure where you got those facts and figures from for your post, they seem a little "too precise" to me....Care to enlighten me as to where you got those facts from?
I was also under the impression that kilsyths population was closer to 18,000...
quote these facts and figures all you want, we ALL know Kilsyth main street is a joke. There are far too many fast foods places, which is why you see them popping up, then disappearing again as fast as they appeared (into the world of bankrupcy Id suspect).
Id say 80% do their shopping else where.
I would move out of here, if I had the means, but believe me when I say Im working on that, and like i said, i do try and stay out of the place as often as possible.
Cumbernauld town centre is not much better, as well all know its a derelict piece of sh*t. CNAULD is an overspill town, and I feel sorry for most of the residents for alot of parts of CNAULD (like everywhere theres nice parts) but all it is, is a moving place for problem families that have been tossed out of glasgow. Junkies, neds, problematic neighbours, all moved on because noone can be bothered dealing with them and their problems (and the paperwork to go with it).
I do have a chip on my shoulder, its took me long enough to realise what kind of place this is, ive just decided to take my rose tinted glasses off and look at this place for what it is.
At the end of the day, my posts are for the most part, really harsh, but they hopefully they have succeed in helping people take a closer look at their surroundings.

Hi hmmmm, I sympathise with your feelings my friend. I did not mean to be rude in anyway and yes i can and do understand your frustrations. Anyone of us can be disillusioned with some aspect of our lifes from time to time, that is very natural.When i lived here i too from time to time , wished i was elsewhere, right now to be honest i cant think why i felt like this but i did have my moments of being peed off. I eventually realised that kilsyth had made me a softy lol,,i just didnt feel at peace in the big city and realised i missed the `smallness`` of kilsyth,,the majority of decent folk,,the great health centre and so on and so forth. IM not saying i relied on kilsyth for 100 percent of my exsistence. I did go out of town a lot, as all my family and friends are in glasgow, but even they took the mickey when they came to visit me in kilsyth,,.I say you either love it or hate it,,but once you spend a fair amount of time here, take in the walks, the atmosphere , the clean country air, you will soon realise what a nice place it is to live in,,as for junkies and neds,,well blame the government for that,,they love placing these misfits into nice well organised societies /areas so they can spread like a cancer, but beleive you me,
it aint half as bad as glasgow or cumbernauld .

Hello hmmm, I guess some of your description of kilsyth is spot on , but i feel that maybe you have a lil chip on your shoulder too. Every town and city has its issues , this is why i said this in my earlier post, as a type of disclaimer. We all at some point in our lives need to face as you put it, junkies, neds etc, god only knows how many `issues` i had with these sorts but luckily for me i didnt rely on god to sort those problems out, lol, i did it myself and very effectively i must admit.
Try walking down cumbernauld town centre at night, very likey to get hassles imo.You can still walk around kilsyth late at night for a stroll and be quite safe. Ofcourse it depends on the situation but kilsyth for me is a lovely safe place to bring up your kids and live your life in relative peace. As for shops and businesses, well the grass always looks greener on the other side, and some shops may think folk never travel out of town lol,,however thats a discussion for another day,,but i love kilsyth, always did , always will, and when i finally get back ill be glad,,good luck all.

To Tommy Morrison"You seem to think on the same track that I do. Yes! The grass always greener on the other side, but some people don!t stop to think that it just as hard to mow.So they let it get out of hand,and expect someone else to come along to take care of it.If folks would come together as a great team, things would soon shape up.
