Dear Friend

Hello! My name is Josh Thomson and I was born on October 24th 2005 at Stirling Royal Infirmary. When I was one day old I was taken to special care and the following day I was transferred to Yorkhill, this was a very worrying time for my mummy and daddy (Karen and Simon). Then on the 28th I was moved again, this time to Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital where on October 29th I underwent successful lifesaving surgery to remove a blood clot from my brain. A scan taken two weeks after the operation showed that the clot was now completely removed but had caused me to have a stroke.

Every week I attend Craighalbert Centre in Cumbernauld where I have fun but also work hard to continue to become a clever little boy. My mummy, daddy and I also return every 3/6 months to Edinburgh Sick Kids for check-ups.

Throughout my treatment and during the worrying weeks following my arrival, my family have shown love and support for both me and my parents, they have all been fantastic and they continue to do so.

We are having a fundraiser on Saturday 4 November 2006 at Kilsyth Parkfoot Social Club to raise money which will then be split between Craighalbert Centre, Cumbernauld and Edinburgh Sick Kids, not only as a thank-you for all the help they have provided for us but so that other boys and girls like me and their families have a little more comfort during hospital stays and following check-ups. Also, money could be used at Craighalbert so they can continue their amazing work and help they give me and my family weekly, for the benefit of other children too.

As I already said, our family will be helping in every way possible with the fundraising but we would be very grateful if you could offer any donations towards the money we would like to raise or even if you have any items we could use for our auction or raffle as prizes. Any help in any way would be greatly appreciated not just by my family but by everyone who will benefit at the hospital or centre.

If you could get in touch with my mummy and/or daddy on any of the contacts provided we would be very grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and even if you are unable to contribute to the event I hope my story has made you aware or maybe more aware of the problems some babies are born with and made you think about what could happen to those who do not have the appropriate help or facilities available.

Yours sincerely

Josh James Thomson
