| - Does anyone know what the horse full of plants as you come in to kilsyth at the colzium is all about? I just noticed it this morning and nearly crashed my car.
I'm sure it's mean to be in good taste but personally i think it looks a bit ridiculous? is there any reason for it being a horse full of flowers? |

on a secret mission to invade Cavary Park. |

Youngsters threatened with Asbos for playing kerbie
Comment | Read Comments (37)
TWO young boys were threatened with an Asbo for playing with a ball outside their house, their mother said today.
Five-year-old Patrick Cairney and his brother Lewis, 9, were playing a game of kerbie in their street when a neighbour called the police.
Officers came round to their house - and told the youngsters their games could lead to an anti-social behaviour order, according to their mother.
advertisementLara Cairney, 35, today said: "This is just outrageous. My boys are scared to go outside and play now. They are just wee boys."
The youngsters play kerbie next to their home in South Dumbreck Road, Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire. They live on a private estate where houses sell for up to £250,000. Mrs Cairney says they moved there in search of "family friendly" environment.
But last Friday, the interior designer was confronted by two policemen.
She said: "I had two police officers saying my two sons had been playing kerbie outside the front of the house.
"The bouncing of the ball and rolling of it into my front garden was annoying the neighbours."
Mrs Cairney went on: "One officer said he would be advising my next door neighbours to contact the anti-social behaviour unit, for a possible Asbo to be served."
And Mrs Cairney says since the police issued the warning, Patrick is too frightened to go out and play.
She said he "is having nightmares".
A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "Police attended a report of a dispute between neighbours .
"Advice was given to all parties and no further police action was taken."

This just about sums up our police force & what they level they are being brought to by petty government oafs..I would use the word officials but that would suggest that they actually serve the public instead of hinder them..Also the neighbours who reported the boys should be prosecuted for wasting police time.Would they prefer it that the boys go play somewhere away from the house so a child molester who incidently was probably freed by liberal do-gooders like them could abuse them..God you stuck-up,self important clowns make me sick,Fact..kids make noise, thats what being a kid is all about, then again you wont remember you idiots...

Is it any wonder childhood obesity and behavioural problems are on the increase when we have the very people who we think would help protect our children threatening to serve ASBO's on them. Utter nonsense! Chase after the real criminals, and let children play their innocent, harmeless games - OUTSIDE! Far too many kids are now glued to their P.C. TV Screen, watching DVD's or playing their consoles. While eating crisps, chocolate and junk foods. Is it any wonder todays kids turn into tommorows obese adults, at risk from diabetes, heart disease and strokes. It's not that our streets aren't as safe. It's just that the number of negative news stories on attacks and muggings on streets has lead to parents overprotection of their kids - denying them the right to play outside, and have as normal a childhood as possible. Thank god I was a child of the 70's and 80's as the P.C. crap that we have to live with today does little to help childrens overall health, growth, social and emotional development today.

[bold]IF[/bold] this story is 100% true then it is a shame that wee boys cannot play "fitba" in the streets....[bold]BUT[/bold] .... I had 9 year old boys playing "fitba" outside my house for years. They damaged gardens, cars etc and their language was disgusting. This often went on until 11 at night in the summer.

[bold]QUESTION: WHY CAN'T THESE CHILDREN PLAY FOOTBALL IN THEIR OWN GARDEN RATHER THAN ON THE PUBLIC ROAD?[/bold] I think serving an ASBO on the children is taking things a little too far. However, this isnt the Gorbals tenement closes circa 1950. I don't think I'd be too happy to have a ball banging about outside my £250,000+ house all day, all summer, knocking into other peoples property. The sound of the ball against the kerb / tarmac / cars / walls - often sounds like a jackhammer. [italic]My suggestion to the distraught mother of these two children is to have them play in her OWN garden rather than the public road, or to take them to a football park where they can play away to their hearts content, as children do.[/italic]

Theu were NOT playing FOOTBALL, they were playing KERBIE, which is simply bouncing the ball off the opposite kerb, a great wee game when I was small. As far as I am aware it is not an offence for children to play on public highways, and the noise from playing kerbie is not excessive to those of us who have a more to worry about. I would only be concerned if it was being played on a road that had traffic throughput, but if it is in a cul-de-sac, what's the problem. The comment about it not being the Gorbals circa 1950 is quite offensive. Admittedly the school of hard knocks has many casualties, but its graduates are more able to withstand the pressures of modern living than those cottonwoolies from the suburbs.

I will reserve judgement on this as this is merely the [bold]mother's[/bold] version of events. Though I have to say, that if the neighbour has had to phone the police then there's probably a lot more to it and I would guess that he/she will have tried to speak reasonably to the mother first and got nowhere . Also, the wee boys who are now "terrified to go outside" are happy to sit outside posing for a photograph on the front page of the Daily Record!! Geez a break......

I think it is really sad that this story has reached the front cover of the newspaper when there is so much else going on in the world. There is obviously nothing else better to report on today!!! I think everyone needs to remember that there are two sides to a story and you can't believe everything you read. Is it a responsible parent that plasters there children all over the front page of a newspaper!!!! Kids these days don't seem to have the same respect for there neighbours/elders maybe the parents should question the example they set!!!!!!!

No wonder the police are hated round my area they don't even turn up when the neds go on a vandal spree smashing windows and damaging cars and attacking people. But when some toffs on a private estate complain about a little noise the cops turn up in van loads...USELESS!

As someone who had to move house after years of enduring children playing football outside their house, I can very much sympathise with the neighbours. The constant thumping of a ball, flying past your living room window and bouncing off all the cars in the street would drive anyone insane. Are we expected to believe that these 2 lads only ever played kerbie? Aye right. For a start the children certainly don't look very traumatised to me. Secondly, and more importantly, what kind of road sense are some parents teaching?! I've got a railway line in view of my house but I wouldn't tell kids to go and play with a football there! I cannot believe some parents are as stupid to say "Away and go out and play on that road son". Just because they're playing with a ball means they'll never be knocked down? And of course, it'll be the drivers fault if the unfortunate were to happen.

I used to chase my own kids to the park when they were playing kerbie. Playing kerbie isn't a problem in itself, but all too often the ball would bounce away from them and into someone's garden. Since local (open plan) regulations would not allow the use of perimeter fence, often my neighbours' garden plants and flowers would be damaged. I could not allow my kids to damage someone else's property, regardless of whether they meant to or not. It's not about being a spoilsport.

Since local (open plan) regulations would not allow the use of perimeter fence, often my neighbours' garden plants and flowers would be damaged. I could not allow my kids to damage someone else's property, regardless of whether they meant to or not. It's not about being a spoilsport.Quote | Report this postPosted by: DIGGER, central scotland on 11:16pm Wed 11 Jul 07
There is more to this story than kerbie! Two sides to a story! but you are only getting one. Would you put your kids on the front page of the record ? Why hasn't the dad spoken up because he seems to have plenty to say in Kilsyth or is he only prepared to put his kids on the front page!!

1 - two sides to every story. 2 - a little bit of Scots law. The police don't serve ASBOs and the advice allegedly given by an officer according to the mother seems most unlikely - a cop wouldn't say that. ASBOs can only be sought by the local Council of registered social landlord and must be granted by the Sheriff. 3 - the police were very restrained in their comments - "Advice was given to all parties and no further police action was taken." Sounds to me that there's a grudge match between the mother, an "interior designer" fae Kilsyth, for God's sake, and her neighbour - and she's exposing her kids in thr press to pursue her grudge. 4 - I've just noticed the comment by "Digger". See my point 3.

Oh Come on people - Get a Grip - if you don't want to stay next to kids then don't move in to a residential housing scheme. I stayed in a similiar setting when i was a youngster and we too had no end of bother with people telling us not to play football outside our own house, we never done any damage, were never cheeky, but some people just get so worked up about these things that it leads to situations like this. To these people i ask - where you never young once? never play football or kerbie or hide and seek in your street? - answer truthfully - so long as the kids aren't doing any damage and aren't being cheeky then what's the problem - and even if they are - threating a five year old and a nine year old with an ASBO? I mean come on... The street mentioned is a very quiet street - not a lot of car's around - there is more kids than car's to be honest, 2 young brothers out playing kerbie - threatened with an ASBO (when they have been on holiday for 2 weeks). Surely people have got more to worry about than that - and given recent events in kilsyth i'm sure the kid's mother will be a lot happier with the kid's playing outside their front door than somewhere where she can't see them. Maybe we should start a John Smeaton type appeal for a fund to build the kid's a couple of Kid's in their back garden - would that make everyone happy?

Funny how so many of you assume that the mother is the lying one. Of course there are two sides to the story, but the other side could equally be a mean old biddy who despises children or dislikes their mother and is looking for a way to get even. I have neighbours who are constantly threatening the local children for playing "too near their property" - not on it, but near. They go looking for things to complain about. Perhaps the ASBO should be applied to the crusty neighbour, not the wee lads.
