Great question. It started out as 16 belt because of Brian Duffy's 16 belt organization - the one Mr. Parker approved. The concept he proposed has remained consistant even though the belt requirements have changed. I din't like it at first. But the more I think about it, the more I like it. 24 techs for an orange belt is a huge pill to swallow. For a green belt, who has the alphabet of motion figured out, it isn't as tough. The 24 tech system seems to make it more difficult to progress from yellow to orange than from blue to green. That's obviously very subjective and would depend on what other requirements or quality of motion criteria an instructor has. Food for thought.
