I teach a forms class every Saturday and have taught many of the so called "hidden breaks" and such--even sweeps and so on throughout Short 1. The issue here is why the forms were designed and how they were not designed for combat.
In the scenario you have painted, that is quite simple and could be used as a break or hyperextension (cancelling his zones), but where do you go from there? The next move of short 1? No, because it won't work.
You can take a piece out of the form and make it combative--I have already stated that. The form itself is not about combat--at least in my opinion--, however, and that was the issue.
