After reading the posts on this thread, and re-reading the original post, I am grasping the concept, but honestly I only found one point I am in total agreement with....
"I know that many people don't care about the academics and say, "Just hit the guy."
That would be me.
I respect the academic side of all this hypothesis, hypoteneuse, and humpty dumpty, but to paraphrase another 'fighter'; Mike Tyson...
"everyone has a game plan, until I punch them in the face"
Thats how I see it. Much like all the gun disarms we practice as martial artists, pretty much all become irrelevant when some yahoo shoves a pistol in your face...and it doesn't have to be a .45 caliber. A $70, .25 cal will effect the same response; fear, adrenaline, call it what you will, but we've all felt it. Time speeds up, and you'd better not get caught up trying to hypothesize your way out of this one. Move, quickly, and keep hitting until there is nothing standing.
No disrespect to you Mike, but the breakdown as you have layed it out, is way too TIME consuming. Here today, gone tomorrow. If you had the obvious time spent thinking and constructing the aforementioned post back, you could have gone through a few techniques a dozen or so times.
To break this whole thing down to more of a raw approach; hit your opponent as many times as you can, in the shortest amount of time, with as much power as you can, to damage your opponent as much as you can so he can't do the same to you...
