Response to I don't think that is what he meant

I think Mr. Tatum gave the perfect answer to the question of how we determine the intent of the attacker so we can beat his action, which was the question of the original post. We train to recognize it......

How long before you recognize it?
You already labeled him as an attacker what's left to recognize?

Just like doing a technique line over and over for years with the same participants, same body mechanics, same threat level.....you recognize it because that's all you see.....day in day out.

Just to make it more interesting why not add someone from the local Wing Chun School or Gracie Academy and see how well the "Ideal Phase" works with some one whom is not as impressed with Kenpo as you!!!!!

Instead of covering the basic technique + extension for the Overskilled in a studio, with the entire classes attention and the UKI who knows he is about to get blasted.....

Why not show the technique with the proper intent of: I am going to attack you sometime today, with out warning, outside the studio, with the distraction of everyday life, noises, timming and distance restraints and so on......and don't even think about the fact that I know Kenpo, Have a Degree in Chemistry, like to gaze at fire and have a fetish with guns and knives and have violent tendencies.........I guarantee you won't see me coming, so how will you recognize it!!!!!

Rich
