I would say that you cannot teach purposeful compliance with a static attack as your model.
As for Leaping Crane, Circling the Horizon, and Gathering Clouds...they are all related, Crane family techniques in that they move outside the right and seek the center, (from the rear in the case of Leaping) whether you kick your way in or cat in. I view Cat Com as a means of understanding Kenpo as a system. I would relate Leaping and Circling in that Leaping takes out the legs, follows with a strike to the midsection, and finishes with a head shot, while Circling demonstrates the exact opposite. You could say that Gathering comes along and says, "OR I can keep all my strikes on the same plane," but there is also a relation between Gathering and another Crane family technique - Protecting Fans.
