I just want to take this opportunity to thank Mr Salantri for visiting my club. We had a great turn out in support from members of my club and Jujitsu students who travelled down from Maynooth. He started with some empty hand stuff and progressed to the knife. The jujitsu guys brought plenty of aluminium ones, enough that every one had a knife to practice with, thanks guys.
He gave us some moves to practice, drills etc, and some words of wisdom.
His skill was exceptional as was his knowledge.
Everyone had a really good time.
At the end, everyone agreed that it was well worth the money and the trip (for those who travelled from Maynooth). We both went over to the pub with Dave Mangan, a friend and fellow 2nd Degree who kindly drove Mr Salantri to my venue, thanks Dave. At the pub the discussion went on for another hour or so before they had to drive back to Dublin.
I learned a lot in that hour too. We discussed pressure points, chi flow, balance, power, Mr Parker. Time went too fast. He also told me how he steps forward with the left leg to do 5 swords. How he was regretting that Mr Parker wasn't around to show him this until a friend of his sent him some of Mr Parkers old notes where there was a version of 5 swords already documented that had the left foot step in!
All in all, an interesting and extremely nice man.
I look forward to training with him again at Portumna, Co. Galway, Ireland next May 2008, which will also include Ms Dian Tanaka, Mr LaBounty, Mr White, Mr Sepulveda (please God), and others. Can't wait!
