Pop had a 1955 Les Paul Jr. no one was allowed to touch.
anyways, I played to his music (drums).. he bought me my own little set.
I was however, fascinated by his guitar... mesmerized even. I started really watching how he chorded things and made the right notes.
So.. i started sneaking it. I actually picked up on chords pretty quick.
he caught me playing it when I was about 12.. remember, no one touched that air loom guitar. (Uncle recorded a 45 on it and played it live on a NW radio station)... but when he caught me.. i was playing enough to I guess impress him so I never got into trouble. as a matter of fact, he bought me my first strat the next Christmas. Rest is history.
      hahaha
I remember I was playing the theme song to "Simon and Simon" when he caught me...... hehehhehehehe i recorded the first track on a cassette tape then played live over the top of it. a 2 track if you will. anyways he heard both parts goin and liked it.
I got rid the the drums like a week after I got that strat.
That strat is the one hanging on my wall in the garage. Its no good, I didnt take care of it...
But a little story about THAT..
I played on that thing from 12 to 18. When I was 18 I took it to a buddys and sanded it all down to paint blood and guts and fire and screaming on it (frikkin metal 80's shit what was I thinking)...
then we graduated, went into military or college or seperate ways..
hell i was probably 32 years old when I ran into that guy visting in the area. He brought up that old guitar in conversation and asked if I wanted to ge get it with him as it was exactly where we left it back then in his dad's wood shop... I said hell yes!
we went and grabbed it and ive held onto it since.
Then i went into other guitars. HAMER USA, Jackson, etc... I landed and settled back on Fenders (as you know) and its funny how things make a full circle...
heres that old guitar.. it IS a strat but I trimmed the headstock back then thinking it was "cool".. (dumbass)... its weathered, worn, warped, and I left it exactly how we sanded it... lol
      (look on the wall)
