As some of you may know I recently tried to sell my Corolla. It was, to say the least, a very disheartening experience. Everybody who phoned me about it offered me derisory amounts of money without even bothering to come and have a look at it. Now, to me, this car is worth what I would consider a reasonable amount of money. Sure, it's a high miler but these engines are fantastic and can take a lot of stick. The bodywork is in very good condition for it's age. What do people want? Low mileage, full history cars of this age and level of performance for peanuts? As an enthusiast I value my car much higher than Mr. Wideboy and hoped that someone with a similar outlook would get in touch. Anyway, I did eventually come to an agreement with someone sensible but I'm left wondering what's going to happen to all the good Corollas when these morons get their hands on them. No doubt they'll be thrashed to within an inch of their lives and dumped when their owners have dragged another sector of the market down into the dumps. Am I just being cynical? I'd like to hear other people's experiences of selling their cars.
When selling your car i think the trick is being patient. I have sold my last 3 cars at a profit and intend doing so with this one. Wait for the right prson to come along and by your car and if they don't arrive then go and look for them! Specialist sites on teh net are a good place to advertise. To avoid loosing money you should choose your car very carefully in the first place, e.g full history, few owners, etc, and if it has not got any of these then make sure its not bent and it must be dirt cheap.
I purchased my last car, a 1992 Peugeot 205 Rallye with 88k on the clock and two owners from new in april 1999 for £1100. I spent a small amount of money on it, new tires, etc and sold it a year and a half later with 100k on the clock for £1800. Proper servicing and showing that the car has had time and affection, not neceesarily loads of money on it then people do notice. The phrase "it looks nice" is what you want to hear.

Hey to everyone reading considering rolling their corrolla GT off a cliff. Dont! Let me tell you that these cars are not made like they used to be. I have a white GT '86 and i think the world of it which can be seen in the condition of it. I have kept it mint since i first saw it. I knew i had a good example because i had searched for a year to find a good example at the right price. Finally she popped up in an ad and i knew she was the one for me. I have seen pictures of other GT's on this site and think that mine would be at least one of the better ones, if not the best. It has service history up to around 70,000 miles and is currently on 90,000. Think i should take it in for one, dont you? I am now considering selling her but will not part with her until i get my price. I am not asking for anything stupid. Just £800 which i think is a very fair price for a car in this condition. Until i get her a good price and home i will not part with my snowdrop!

i had the same experience trying to sell my 87 gt corolla, loads of mot & tax and ppl offering £200 and below, i mean 144000 miles with a service history aint bad and i'm only the 3 rd owner, after looking on some of the austrailian and us sites i think the cars are seriously undervalued here in the uk
How much is your corolla worth

Selling my red AE82 was a total nightmare, having paid a bit extra for it when I bought it from a garage(1 owner from new 70000miles on a 87D)I didn't care as it was totally clean. When I decided to sell it I put it in Autotrader and E&M to appear on the Thursday,I had plenty of callers but most saying "I will give you £450 or £500 max" even though I had advertised for well over a £1000 and "You car is not worth that you can buy a AE92 for that sort of money!" and "People don't want corolla GTs anymore" they would try all sorts some were rude and bloody timewasters. Then a few would call back the following week saying "As its not sold I will give you £350 and I will come today with the cash!" at one point I thought "maybe they're right you can buy an AE92 for that sort of money" but I held out and sold it to a fellow enthusiast. My trouble was I placed the ad in a commercial advertiser and not say T.E.C or Corolla websites. So the people who rang, as Rick said were wideboys, and didn't have a clue what sort of cult following the AE82 has!
Shocking Developments!!

Anybody who was interested in buying my car might be relieved to know that if you had bought it you would have been buying a whole lot of trouble. It just failed it's MOT miserably!! There's a lot of bodywork sorting to be done as well as a few small mechanical jobs. It's not worth what needs to be spent on it so this is it. I'm breaking it for spares so if you need anything please mail me. There are still plenty of good bits on it, but the engine's spoken for, so don't even ask.

Heh heh... My Corolla FX-16 was bought with a salvage title, a slightly bent frame, and currently stands with not one undamaged panel (though it doesn't look all that bad). But, it's plenty of fun at the track!!

but unfortunately I live in the UK. Why unfortunately? From a motorists point of view that is. We have one of the highest levels of road/petrol taxation in the world and are well on the way to being the most monitored nation on Earth. How many speed cameras do we need per mile for ####s sake?
