As a Texan > w/ roots in Brown/Morgan Co. I would just like to say to you in Martinsburg(ville) Save your old buildings, residences, structures. Your children and grandchrildren will be looking at historical markers on the sides of 7-11, Kwik Mart stores or out in front of a new McDonalds. The good people of Nacogdoches, TX, prostitued themselves in the name of progress. Most of the old homes and business structures we wrecked for some piece of junk that employees 10 people at $7.00 per hour.
NOW the good people of Nacogdoches are looking for ways to BRING IN THE CASH and what do they want to do> they want tourisum to be the cash cow. Most of the history was torn down 30-40 yrs ago. And they are wishing they still had the old court house, the old houses, the old ect.
My grandmother ran the Townhouse cafeteria in the '50's and my grandfather was in the lumber business. My father played basketball in the old H.S. gym, in the early '40's.
I love Martinsville and the surrounding area. I makes me ill to see the "progress" that has been made.
Try to get the EPA to step in to stop wrecking of the Kennedy House. It will cause too much polution. Those radical green folks might be able to help.
Historical Society > hang in there.
