1987 and 1988 models had only a 8,6 ltr tank capacity (6.1 ltr on main tank and 2.5 ltr on reserve)
Yamaha must have regarded that as a bit of a balls up because from 1989 and onwards the tank capacity increased to 13.5 ltrs (11 ltr on main tank and 2.5 ltrs on reserve).
I ride my 1988 DX535 reasonably hard on occasion though certainly
not all the time and return an average of 11.3 miles per ltr.
