535 Tank

Hi Robin,

I've really nothing against 535's - they're just great for the lady bikers, but for the guys - NO! They've got no guts and yes, the tank is tiny! Ok for popping off the the shops, but if he wants to head off into the sunset on a long ride with the 'boys' he'll get left behind at numerous gas stations! The 535 we had ridden by dear Carole from the Fens when we went to Denmark was a blessed pain in the ass (not Carole, just her bike!)

Tell your friend to get hold of either a low mileage 750 or 1100 Virago instead!! Failing that a 650 Dragstar. If this old fart at age 55 can ride a nice Big 1100 so can he!!

Ride Safe,

Sid

Wait one godam minute here... i own a 1992 xv535 and its a great wee bike and very reliable.. I am 17 stone and my xv535 doesn't hold back on the motorways (alright 100mph is my max but the excelaration is superb, its ideal for comuting back and forth to work in and out of the traffic jams).
I do take yer point reagrding the size of the gas tank though... I need to fill it up daily, I probably get 100 to 120 miles to a full tank of gas.

this xv535 was & is my first bike, I'm hoping to upgrade to a bigger beasty shortly but I definatley have no regrets about owning this wee beauty... Cya ~DL~

The tank capacity on a uk spec 535 is 13.5 litres, as the guy above says you will get between 100 and 120 miles between fill ups. I use mine for commuting and for weekend blasts and love her to bits.

Robin

Tank capacity depends on the age of your VX535.

1987 and 1988 models had only a 8,6 ltr tank capacity (6.1 ltr on main tank and 2.5 ltr on reserve)

Yamaha must have regarded that as a bit of a balls up because from 1989 and onwards the tank capacity increased to 13.5 ltrs (11 ltr on main tank and 2.5 ltrs on reserve).

I ride my 1988 DX535 reasonably hard on occasion though certainly
not all the time and return an average of 11.3 miles per ltr.

Hope this helps.

WHOOPS - I meant a 1998 DX 535.

Whilst writing, I start to look out for a filling station at around the 80/90 mile mark, Look hard at 100 mile mark and start mildly panicking at 120 miles.
