A writer's style

Reguarding "style", I once sent a story off for an assessment a few years ago, seeking an outside opinion.
She said to keep writing until I developed my own style and voice. I didn't understand what she meant back then. But after writing for a few more years I realised I have finally developed a very unique style of my own. I am most happy with how it is coming along. Have any of you realised and followed the development of your personal styles?

I didn't have a clue what 'my own personal voice/style' was either until I was actually doing it. My critique group could tell. They said my writing had started to sound like me, like the way I spoke and I was using some of my own expressions of speech, rather than pretending I was someone else (the narrator or something pompous).

me too. Like i said somewhere before.... the course i do really help develop and tune your personal style and voice. Its strange isnt it...that when reading someones work you are actually reading apart of them. Scary would a word i would use on that topic actually.
That we can actually do that.... i like the wqord 'actually' today i think...lol
