Timna you are so cheeky - I love it!!! So Louise, hint hint??? I'm suddenly inspired to read Destiny again. Reading my first Traci Harding right now (Alchemist's Key - quite enjoying it but I'm finding it a little strange in that it's printed in large type and written with the tone of a young adult book but the characters smoke dope and rip their clothes off in the back of a limo - hmmm ... but I'm still happily reading away!)

I read that book by Traci Harding too, Alyson. I find all her work to be written in the young adult feel. Just the language and the way it feels, yet some of the theme is definitely directed at an older audience. Made me a bit uncomfortable at times but then again she is very popular so she must have hit on a VOICE that heaps of people like. I enjoyed the books other than that.

Agents sounds like a good topic to me too.

At last!

April 10 2002, 7:23 AM

Okay, I spoke to my publicist yesterday and we've decided to release a chapter of book two in segments over the weeks leading up to the release.

Don't you just love suspense?

So, from about 17th May I'll be posting a couple of hundred words each Friday to tease readers with hints of what's in book two.

I've already mentioned to you guys that although it's still my 'voice', it's tone is different to book one - parts are darker and more desperate on Ennae where the political situation is falling apart. On Magoria (our world), where Pagan is exiled with the child of The Light, it's more confusion than confrontation he's dealing with, and to add to his confusion (just when he's decided that he loves Lae) there's the possibility of a sexual entanglement...

Lots of hints there, and as I said, some teasers on the website soon and other stuff we're still working on.

Hope that keeps everyone going.

Yay! I can't wait. Yet I don't know if I want just snippets - it won't be enough! And those little clues are such a tease, Louise.

(I'm a poet and I didn't even ... realise it - hee!)

I don't know if that's cruel or kind!

April 11 2002, 7:39 PM

I don't know if that's cruel or kind, Louise! If I know me, which I do! I am the same as Alyson and little snippets each Friday is going to be torture!

latent sadism

April 12 2002, 7:17 AM

Okay, we've decided that my publicist is a sadist. But perhaps I could say that you could read the excerpts each week from the 17th or simply read the whole chapter when it's all up on such-and-such a date - just before the launch.

Is that easier? I know I'd be too insatiably curious to wait myself, but maybe you guys have more patience. Oh hang on, am I asking Alyson of the foot-tapping to be patient?

One whole meaty chapter sounds good to me. It will be enough to keep me going, enough to make me buy the book, but not enough to give away the whole kit and kaboodle.
What about you Alyson???

One chapter sounds good. I think I could handle that! I am so excited. What a cliffhanger with Pagan meeting a modern mystery woman! Eek, I'm getting giddy!

(Foot tapping maniacally as we speak)

good/bad news

April 15 2002, 7:49 AM

Sorry guys, they LOVED the idea of excerpts at S&S so that's what we're doing. Maybe it won't be so bad once you get into it. Or you could simply wait until all the little bits are up and read them then...?

May 9 2002, 4:17 PM

Timna you are a sweetie! It's not due for release until Saturday 15th June, however it might not be on the shelves that very day. However, if it's not out by Monday we're allowed to throw a tantie

excerpts coming this Friday

May 11 2002, 11:31 AM

Okay, just wanted to let you guys know that next Friday (17th) is when I'm posting the first excerpt of DoTD. I'm soooo looking forward to it. It will be weird putting the first chapter up in bits over four weeks, but that's the plan. I just hope it doesn't drive everyone crazy!

Temptress

You are a cruel cruel woman, Louise! Giving us such tiny little snippets. They will be addictive and full of hints and clues and leave us wanting more!

Can't wait.

Half way through my Destiny re-read and amd loving it all over again.

Re: Daughter of the Dark

May 13 2002, 7:03 PM

well after reading this thread I've decided that its all mean and nasty. I'm an all-at-once kinda girl, little snippets could just about kill me. I have trouble when certain tv shows have "to be continued" at the end. I've decided its safer for all involved if I don't read any snippets at all. I'm even waiting until end of exams before I do my destiny re-read (holy cow that's a long time - talk about self control!) And I thought I recognised the 15th of June - exam that day, BIG exam. So that means I will have to wait until the third week of holidays at least before I can venture into a bookstore because I'm stuck on intern after that and can't leave the uni. I believe the universe is conspiring against me

Ooooooh, friday ...... just knowing the excerpt is going to be there is making me twitchy.

Okay, deep breath....... ahhhhh I'm just going to turn off the computer and step slowly back......

or not, I'm hoping to join you all on sunday night

... to be continued ...

Helen - come on Sunday!!!! It would be great to chat to you. Every week we say we wish you and Fi could come along. I bet I won't be able to resist reading the snippets though I too would love to read the whole thing at once. We'll see how long our will power lasts!

Helen!!!! Yay!

May 14 2002, 9:59 AM

Yes Helen! Hope to see you there on Sunday night.

Hmmmm! A sentient university that conspires against its students. I like that idea. Sort of like Christine but with balding professors and lecture halls!

I can't wait!

May 14 2002, 12:01 PM

It's all getting soo exciting now!!! Can't wait to be tantalised by the excerpts!!

It's a bummer I can't make the Sunday chat, but hockey is lots of fun, and since I'm goalie I kinda need to be there every week!! The team I play with is really good - most games I'm lucky to touch the ball more than a few times. Last Sunday I touched it once - it was a very tight game and we had gotten the first goal 5 mins before game end. The other team were desperate to score... they got the ball and came charging down towards me, so basically I thought "no way are they getting a goal" and took out the girl with the ball (in a legal way of course!) We got control of the ball and seconds later the game ended. I didn't realise just how close to the end we were, but I was very lucky I didn't give them a chance to shoot! And I scored Best & Fairest!! Very stoked by that, since the goalie rarely gets noticed. I'm very fortunate to have a coach who is keen to train me into being a good goalie. And considering this is only my second season as a goalie, I'm pretty excited to have found a position that I like so much.

Most of our games get scheduled for 8pm for some reason, which is why I miss the chat... If I get a 5.40pm or 9.10pm game I may be able to catch up. Fingers crossed! I really do want to talk "live" with you all - it's so much fun! Fi

don't shoot the author

May 15 2002, 7:42 AM

Okay, deep breath and just get it out there.

I made a mistake with the dates (ducking). The first excerpt isn't supposed to go onto my website until Friday 24th May. That's Friday week.

BUT... let's not panic. There's a prologue before Chapter One, and I was only going to post Chapter One on the website. So seeing as it's my stuff-up, I thought I'd post the Prologue this Friday, then post Chapter One in bits from the 24th as I'm supposed to and hopefully no-one gets cranky.

I'm sorry I mucked up the dates, but there's so much happening at the moment (updated in my diary) that I got a bit confused. However, it will 'all be right on the night'. I promise.

P.S. Congrats on your wonderful hockey game, Fi. There's nothing like that recognition to keep you enthused.

Timna

Ok...now...

May 17 2002, 2:02 PM

Can you tell us any plans for launch of book two? Are you having one for starters?
You'll be travelling around in the next year talking to children... i can just see it! Some one loves you up there.....

book signing

May 18 2002, 6:14 PM

Timna, I am having a champagne book signing (more on that at the website) but no firm plans for promotion next year. Although funny you should mention kids, I've been doing some work with kids in schools up here, how to write stuff, but the trouble is I don't really see my novels as being suitable for school kids (too much violence and sex)so I haven't been promoting them in school.

I'm such a mother! But other authors have assured me that kids get more sex on Home and Away and more violence on the Saturday night movie. Trouble is I don't let my kids watch those sorts of things, so I'm probably living in a time warp.

I do talks for adults, though, if it's local and hopefully next year I'll be getting to more festivals and seminars. I've just had such a busy couple of years I promised my family I'd have an at-home year this year. Next year, however, I'll be racking up those frequent flyer points.
Never mind, I guess we just each have to stick to our own morals and
