And now a thread for the paranormal fans. What goodies can we come up with in a thread numbered 13? Will posts mysteriously disappear? Or if you delete every third letter of this text will it reveal a secret incantation designed to call up ghouls and goblins from the nether worlds?
ok, well here i am again... trying to get to this board at least once a week.... the chat room is another story all together.
DH is at that point where the characters are rolling it through! Its so strange to look back on, as all my notes when i was brewing this story are quite different to how it has turned out to date.... the take over has started. Although it is obviously for the better.
I have a mischeifious wolf guide now.... and he is very bizarre to write for... he says the weirdest things! all part of being a talking wolf i suppose.
am off to wagga in only 3 and 1/2 weeks. The time is close..... uni pracs are always fun though!
on my horsey note, Deb and Lou, let your daughters know Aud is growing and changing. She was sick this past month and we only just discovered her problem, so we are treating it and she is a happy horse again! She was tested on Monday (part of the racing studbook.... have to prove who her parents are to be classified as a purebred horse... shes not racing mind you...)
Kat on the other hand.... she is well and i have asked if she would like another baby next year and guess what.... she does! So im off to look at some fella's for her on Friday.... all lovely stud muffins! so, another possible foal to show off next season!
i saw some of the post from PM12... and i must say well done guys... you are all on a roll!

I think thirteen is a great number. In fact it is my lucky number! HEHE!
My novel is going wonderfully again. YAY! So I am trying to get as much written as I can before those muddy coloured glasses find their way back to me again.
How's everyone else going with their writing/editing?

Slow but sure
August 23 2002, 11:58 AM
Spent some of this morning going over my chapters and transcribing each onto my white board - again - so I can track the story.
After deciding to allow the story to tell itself and not be forced by my hand, I had a few "changes", so inevitibly my white board did not follow my plot at all!
Now it does and I can look at with just a glance and boom know what's going on with each character.
Am currently sitting around 74,000 words now! WHOO-HOO! Half a novel since late last year. Slow but sure...

Yay Deb - isn't it funny when you crack a round number, everything flows soooo easily!
Have trillions of family members here for my hubby's biffy tomorrow - all came down from Brisyy for a big weekend - so no writing this weekend - but will be great anyway!
Won't be on Sunday night - at footy - then dinner.

So glad that you're on a roll again, Deb. Let's hope those muddy coloured glasses get lost this time. And I'm happy to hear that DH is doing well too, Timna. A wolf guide? Sounds like the sort of story Rachel would walk over cut glass to read and I'm intrigued as well. Please keep us updated
Cassie, sorry to hear that you're not finding much time for writing at the moment - I have the opposite problem - no life! But these phases wax and wane, you'll get back to it soon when the compulsion grabs you.
Alyson, you must be the 'hostess with the most-ess' to be getting so many visitors. Its a wonder you can be so productive. But perhaps the social interaction charges up your battery for the solitary times when you can write. In any case, enjoy the football tonight. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I can't wait until it's over and the cricket begins!!!
In case you don't here my "Yahoo!" from there, I'll let you all know when I post baby number three away. Looking good for next Thursday at this stage

August 25 2002, 7:36 PM
Did get some writing done the other night. Amazing that some great 'motivation' and 'conflict' bits are presenting themselves so late in the stage. Like they were all hinted at and now I am polishing they are coming to the page fully formed and soooo much clearer. It's great.
I added a new scene where I realised the hero had the heroine's future in his hands with respects to an enormous business oppurtunity. I had hinted at it and yet never used it as a source of fab conflict! I fixed that now I can tell you.
Loving the editing heaps. Sigh..

Reached 78,000 words today! SO I am half way there.
Alyson, so happy you can draw all your threads together in your editing. Things you hinted at can be evaluated and fleshed out... great!
Lou, happy that you are almost done with book 3! Yippee for you!

Well, thread #13 certainly wasn't unlucky for me! I've completely "Glimmer in the Maelstrom", my Book in a Year and will be happy to stand next to Alyson and cheer while everyone else who's still racing comes across the finish line.
What was our due date, Timna?
Re: Project Muse #13
August 31 2002, 7:12 PM
Still haven't completely finsihed yet Lou so you win!!!
I am loving editing sooo much. Too much. I am finding I have to drag myself away from some sections which I am filling out to magnificent proportions! Day off tomorrow so will edit like a crazy woman.
Up to 32000 words edited. Therefore 20000 to go. Some will slip past and other bits need fix ups. But I'm really happy with what I have.
Had major inspiration about the next book I will finish. I turned the light off then it hit me! A great device to keep my compatriots together in an enclosed space for a period of time. I had set it up without even realising it! But I won't go there until this one is done. Should send it off in a week! Eek!
Eeeeek

Sorry Alyson, I jumped the gun, but it looks like you'll be over the line soon anyway. I'm sure you'll feel much lighter once you've posted yours away too. But remember, you're not contracted so they're not expecting it by a due date! You can let it sit for a week and then do a final read through with fresh eyes in case something jumps out at you. I'd have loved to have had the time to do that myself.
Do let us know the moment it's away so we can all be visualising the editor loving it.

Another person who's crossed the finish line is Mick. In typical humble style, he just happened to mention at the chat on Sunday that he'd completed his fantasy novel and it's currently 'in the freezer' while he works on other things.
Deb, a brass band if you please, and Helen a few purple cream pies would be nice.
How about updates from everyone else who's working on the Book in a Year Project, so we know who's still in the game and who's deferring.

Re: Project Muse #13
September 7 2002, 1:23 PM
Up to 48000 words edited. Including a whole new 5000 word chapter I had to stick in the middle. I knew I needed it and I had a big asterisk to do it for ages, but I was a little nervous that it wouldn't achieve what I knew I needed it to ahcieve.
But I wrote it in two nights and I love it. Full of tension and fun and sets up lots of little bits that get revealed later on. Very happy.
So now I am on the down hill straight. The end is going to come on like a steamroller. Have 3 days off so should be finsihed by Monday. The I will let it sit. Have one more read, fix and and send off.
Wish me luck for the weekend!!!

wow every one is doing sooooooooo well i cant help but feel im lagging behind but thats what happens when you study and write at the same time ... im entering a writing competition soon and im exited about that ...most of my time is spend daydreaming thinking about writitng but not actualy doing it as i have soooo much work its not funny. i am working hard in my drama production... any one on this site live in canberra(probably not:)) if u do come see it when its on i tell you all later any way ...do you guys know how hard acting is? i keep on telling myself this is all great training for the future but its such hard work expecialy when people never get off your case!

plenty of time
September 10 2002, 11:50 AM
Cassie, don't worry about not being able to write just now. You have to live as well. And the things you are doing in your life now are going to be influence what you write when you do have time to write later on. My advice is just to be as observant as you can - that's very important for writers. Notice how things feel and smell, the colours of a sunset or the shadows under a tree. And when you're in a situation where your emotions are aroused, make a mental note of how that feels as well. If you're frightened, where do you feel it in your body? Low in your belly or high in your chest. And do you get a taste in your mouth at the same time? Stories are about action, but also about how those actions affect people. If you've been a keen observer of life and of yourself, you'll be able to make your stories realistic and engaging because people will think "That's how I feel when I'm scared."
One day you'll get the time to write. And by then you'll have heaps of things to write about.
Re: Project Muse #13
September 11 2002, 4:03 PM
Don't beat yourself up, Cassie. Study now, keep the dream alive and keep reams of notes on all your inspired ideas and thoughts in the mean time. They will be invaluable when you DO start to write...

Finished my edited draft a couple of days ago. the final 15,000 words in 3 days. Phew! And I wrote THE END At midnight on the dot! I was ready to go to bed by 11ish then thought I'll just write this last idea and there was a fab mad rush to the end!!!
I haven't looked at it for a couple of days - that night I did not get to sleep until 4am with story ideas old and new screaming in my head - it was bloody exhausting!!!
Will leave until tomorrow for a final spell check (quite a lot of new stuff and a tighten up - too many words). Then a print and a send off. I was going to leap into finishing my next one but my head is spinning!!! So will read NON-ROMANCE for a couple of weeks and not write a thing.
I have a week off first week of October so will start again then! I'll let you know when I actually take the trek to the post office .... knees shaking, head spinning, 'did I leave a comma out of that sentence mid chapter six???'...

Alyson, so pleased for you. It's a lovely feeling to get to the end. Do let us know when you've posted it. I'm sure you'll walk away from the Post Office feeling 10k lighter!
I'm not working at the moment. Well, I am reading, so technically that's working. Half way through Prospero's Children and loving it. I know you told me you had it but hadn't read it yet, Deb. Don't start! You won't be able to put it down. It's a real mystery/thriller, with a fantasy twist.
Friday I'm off to an island in Moreton Bay to have lunch with a mate of mine, writer who lives there. I'll be sussing out the sea on the catamaran trip over and telling myself it's research! Ah, the writer's life...

September 13 2002, 2:27 PM
thankyou for the good advice louise and i'll do what you said taking note is a great idea!
im glad every one elses progress is moving along so well and congradualtions alyson.
i am filled with great ideas for book two when i haven't finished one but hey i like to think about the story and plan in my mind before i write it. i my drama class yesterday two actors in training and a guy who helps with the training came to our class, this guy said
"be carefull of what you want from life because every one gets what they really want eventually"
then the whole class went silent whilst digesting this comment ...i was thinking 'what? so im going to be a rich a famous auther with my own castle? i dont think so' but funnily enough i have always been told by epople that my ambition and determination will take me to great places whatever i chose to do ...i think this is why i am so worked up about not having the time to write ....i have made my book my whole life! and not many people experiance having that one thing as their whole life but maybe its like how a mother feels when they have a child? i have no idea but my book is every thing to me so i will do almost any thing to get it published in the end. maybe i could stalk people (LOL)
Re: Project Muse #13
September 14 2002, 8:29 AM
Stalking people. Hmmm, that could be an interesting angle when you're interviewed later as a rich and famous author, Cassie. You could say, "Oh yes, I was so desperate I stalked people." Kind of like J.K. Rowling's "writing in a coffee shop because it was warm" story. Gives people that happy glow to know that the story was so obviously meant to be.
I think determination is a great quality in a writer, because there are usually lots of knock backs along the way, and keeping your eyes on your goal (rather than being distracted and getting into a pity party) keeps you moving towards it. Baby steps, and then eventually you're there and everyone is saying "Wow, you did it." Trouble is, it can often take your emotions a little while longer to catch up with reality - to actually feel as if you're there - but that's another story
Had a great day yesterday with my friend and her husband on Macleay Island - studied the sea on the way over (very calm - the universe looks after me, I'm not a good sailor) and then spoke to them at length about their experiences as yachties and also about snorkelling and surfing. I'm after that illusive spiritual connection people get with the sea. Trouble is, you need to be in the sea, regularly, to experience it. I think I'm getting closer. Actually, I'm starting to think that the inspiration to do this next trilogy is all about exploring my fascination/fear relationship with the sea. That's not to say that I won't come up with a great plot and interesting characters, but I think there will be a lot of my own obsessions in there too. Not sure if knowing that beforehand is helpful or not. But at least I'll be prepared to press myself forward if I start to get scared and think about backing off.
The writer's life. So much more interesting than therapy (and cheaper too)
Re: Project Muse #13
September 14 2002, 9:17 PM
Lou, I bought the Abyss on DVD yesterday - watching it today and I realised how much I adore sea films! The oppresive feeling, the serious lack of knowledge we have about the sea and its mysterious depths. Might be some more good research.
The Abyss, Sphere, The Big Blue - all great stories.

well, this really is a room full of little miracles, you guys are all doing soooooooo well! As you can probably tell writing has no been getting much of my time lately, uni is just indescribible (sp?) but I do have a good one bubbling back in my mind. There you go Cassie, you're not the only one who is lagging behind, although I'd prefer to think of it as just extending the deadline
Hurrah for the laggers, just think stew tastes better when you leave it simmer for a while!!!
Louise
Yay the laggers!
September 19 2002, 11:17 AM
Helen, so great to hear from you again, and Cassie please don't ever worry about not writing. There's a time for everything, and you're so young. I think this could just be your time to experience life and let ideas stew as Helen said.
Thanks for the recommendations re the Abyss. I'm making a list of videos I want to hire over the school holidays and have added that. Am also determined to see Music from Another Room, Dogma, Gosford Park, A Beautiful Mind and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (because I adore Alan Rickman in it - he's such a good baddie).
I'm still researching the sea and trying to work out why I've written "Y chromosome dying out" on a piece of paper - it won't leave me alone now. I must have been watching some show on television and wrote it down, and now I keep thinking that's important and I have no idea why. I'm sure it will fit in somewhere, but not sure how.
The other interesting thing that has happened is that two characters have come into my mind (nothing to do with the sea trilogy) and have said, "Write Me Now" so I'm doing that for a couple of hours on free days. Not sure what sort of story it is - looks like it could be a romance - but the characters are so clear and so strong. I'm not supposed to start the sea trilogy until after my research trip north in November, so I'm 'going with my gut' and writing this story to see where it goes. It's not going to be long, maybe a novella, and it just flows out. Will let you know what happens, but it's not looking like fantasy, just a contempary story about two people from different sides of the track who don't want upset their contented lives but, having met, can't seem to go on without the other. Does sound like a romance, doesn't it, but I'm not up to any mushy stuff yet. Just the fascination part. And I'm fascinated by it and wondering how it will work out. There are these great sub characters as well, and... well, you guys probably know how it goes.
I was talking to Kim about it yesterday and wondering why I can't simply have a break from writing and be like a normal person for a month and she said, "We're writers. We write. It's what we do." Hearing someone else say it made it more real. But it is a funny feeling to know that I'm addicted. I can't simply ignore this voice in my head that says, "Write me NOW," or I'll likely go mad.
Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated.

BOOK IN A YEAR FINITO!!!
September 21 2002, 11:43 PM
Phew ... I've done it. Finished my book in a year project. And with a coupld of months to spare. I posted my book off today - shaking hand as I wrote the address on the envelope. Cost a pretty penny to post 300 odd pages to London! But its okay!!! I don't mind!
Felt great to send it away. Now for the 12 month wait. If I get a letter I know it has been rejected. If it a one page letter, I know to put it away forever! The longer the rejection letter, the clsoer you are to being published!
But then again there is always a possibility I may get THE CALL... so everyone has to send out happy thought for me. Visualise me getting THE CALL!!!
Happy, happy, happy

Hey everyone,
I'm finally back on track with my writing. Well sort of. I haven't written anything with months, having been too stressed out with assignments to even attempt. But today I realised that my Uni work is actually the factor working towards my writing. I have just began a new unit in psychology. My final psych unit for the year and it is Psychology and Crime. So without even realising it, I was researching my book through learning more about serial killers and other related crimes. This unit is just the background information I needed to get back to work
It looks like my Great Gatsby essay shall have to wait until Sunday.
I hope everyone else's writing is going well also. It feels so good to be back on track

So glad everyone is going well, and Alyson, YAY!!!!! You got it away. So pleased for you. And yes, let's all visualise "the call". I know a few girls who have received it and it's very exciting, however that, too, usually isn't the end of it. They rarely accept a first book without revisions, so when you get the call you certainly get excited, but it's not a done deal until you send back the revised manuscript and they send you a contract. Then you break out the bubbly.
Glad to hear the uni girls are getting some writing done in semester breaks. I think it's pretty much common knowledge that Kim Wilkins wrote her first two published novels in semester breaks, just worked flat out, and I think (but don't quote me on this) got each book written in a year. So it can be done!
Having told you all that a new story grabbed me, I haven't written anything on it for a couple of days because I'm kicking back with my kids, however they'll be back at school soon enough and I'll be a free agent then.
Have heard from my editor that she really likes "Glimmer in the Maelstrom" and is editing it currently. So I should have it back within a month. Looking forward to that.
Glad to hear you're firing, Nancy and Cassie. Haven't heard from Deb for a while. How you going in the cold west, Deb, getting anything done? Or are school holidays just too mad?
P.S. Glad you dropped by Timna. Nice to hear from you again. And I agree about the uni subject, Holly. I'm always picking up bits and pieces and putting them together later. If you try to write in a vacuum, you make it very hard for yourself.

Hope everyone is having a great school holidays! I haven't written a thing all week but have been busy with my new job, and watching any and every thing about Collingwood on telly.
My hubby had a great idea, he suggested I finish writing the screenplay of the John Christopher 'Prince in Waiting'. It might be a good way to cleanse my head of my last story before I immerse myself in the next.
Lou, I bet you're having a lovely time with the kiddlywinks. And sooooo glad your editor gave such nice feedback on Glimmer! So when you get it back, it will be to make minor changes before the final clean up??? Let us know when that happens.
Deb, still waiting for the 100,000 celebrations!!!

Well the 100K mark celebrations are still a teensy way off, Alyson. But I am less than 500 words away from 90,000! I am hoping to click over that 90K mark today.
Sooooooooo happy, you got your book away, Alyson. I am visualising the call like mad for you! HEE!
Also soooooooo happy for you, Lou. A good review from your editor... not too many changes. You just get better and better!
Uni girls!!! Holidays! YAY! I hope you are getting to immerse yourselves in your writing!
Glad to see you in here again, Timna! It's been so long!!!!
After reading back over all I missed I realised how long I have been away too! Life just keeps throwing itself at me! But I am still managing to write, so that is one good thing, even if it is not as much as I would like.

I eddited a part of chapter four of my book and i handed it into my english teacher for an assignment and i got it back yesterday:( im not happy! i got 13.5 out of 20 and she said 'you need to change your dialogue ....' i know she was only trying to help, my mother said the same thing but im really sick of people saying stuff about my dialogue....its the way it is for a reason. well that was my little winge and im trying not to let that mark injure what i have with my book so far....im at 26,000 words and slowly progressing...i have discovered that i cant write for longer than an hour at a time because it gets boring....short attention span i guess but oh well.

Hi Guys'
I have been working quite a lot on the book this week. its been an amazing week for writing for me with new characters and old ones reappearing, new magic and at llast the mention of the lost books of the Acients. Its almost like this book is writing its self IT still amazes me what gets written down. I have found now that my rough copy feels like a thoughts book. I have started to type some of it and so much more comes out its great.

Jocelyn, so pleased that setting a time helps you. Whatever works! And great to hear that everyone is 'up' about their work, even if they're busy. I think it's a great idea to do the screenplay, Alyson - your hubby is a clever guy. I've been wondering how you were going with it. Do let us know when you get those 10k milestones, Deb. You're "Going boldly when no Muser has gone before..." towards that magical 100k mark. That will be something to really celebrate.
Timna, so pleased you're back and involved and Nancy it's great to hear that your story is telling itself - that's the best thing. Cassie, if you're happy with your dialogue, don't stress it. The most important thing is to write the story and learn as you go. Practise finishing books. I was always ribbed about my characterisation when I started off, and now I think it's one of my strengths, so people commenting on it now can only help you in the long run.
I've been having time off with my guys, but this week I'll have a couple of days to myself while they're visiting family. So if my mad girlfriend doesn't drag me off on some adventure, I'll be back into my short story/novella that could even be a short novel - not sure yet. But if I don't get any more done this week I won't be worried. Next week the kids are back at school and I'll have plenty of time to write it then.

Everyone seems to be getting some writing done, even if it is wedged in between school, kids or mad girlfriends! HEE!
So happy you dropped in, Timna! How is everything? How are you horses? Is Kat in foal yet?
I am up to 91,300 words now! AND it school holidays! Yikes! Can't believe that...
A screen play, Alyson! That sounds like a wonderful change of pace for you. Let us know how it goes, ok?
Jocelyn! Even you are writing now! Yay for you!
Cassie, keep going with you story. Even if you do not agree with what others say, it may help you to let their information sit for awhile. Let it float around your mind. Maybe it will help you at some point.
I hope your teacher added something more than just your dialogue needs work! If she offered some advice as well it may be helpful, if not, well it's not very constructive is it?
I have had a couple of professional assessments and when I got them back I sulked big time. They pointed out everything I did wrong. And I had done heaps wrong too! HEE!
"What do they know?" I would mutter to myself. But after I got over the bruising to my pride, I took their advice and it helped me improve like you would not beleive. But I had to let go of my pride to improve...
Hope you take this in the right context, Cassie... not as a lecture but as a "been there done that" thingee...

Yay Deb! Over 90,000 before you know it. I remember your 60,000 milestone like it was yesterday! You are speeding along like a fast speedy ... thing.
Hope the holidays have been good to everyone. I have a week off at the moment but have been grieving for two days! Watched 3 Julia Roberts movies today, ate chocolate and cheese on toast - very seedy!
My bro-in-law is moving back to Brissy in 3 weeks so we have to now decide whether to stay where we are and rent out his room or move or look into buying a house. Plus just started my new job at Chadstone - great so far, the other girls are just lovely - I think it will be brezzy and a lot of fun. So head spinning with life at the mo. May take the week off writing to do tax, book trip to Tassie in November, get car services, visit friend in country for 3 days...
Actually happy to have the break. Then have a fresh start, and hopefully soon a fresh laptop. I'll let y'all know how I go.
Lou, sounds like you're busy busy. Good for you! Can't wait to see how you novella goes. Just think, all of Stephen King's best films were from his short stories....

thax for your advice deb... when I'm edditing my book I'll worry about whats wrong with my dialogue then:) at the moment my books stuck...I got to a part where I wasnt sure wich direction to go so I started a problem with my characters and the way I fixed the problem was a bit dogey so I dont really know what to do with it now. I've been reading David and Leigh Eddings books(I know most of you have already read them but I have only been 'full-time' reading for 2 and half years) and I have realised so many faults in my own story:( the truth hurts.... this guy in my writing class at school said 'its heaps like harry potter' and I dont know if he's even read the books so who knows what thats supposed to mean ...my story is detailed but I get bored easily so I do lost of 'skipping' from one scene to the next and my complecated story to me is starting to seem to simple ...I wrote a prophecy for my characters and over simplified the whole event! so now I'm stuck ...not sure what to do or where to go...I want to add politics but how am I supposed to incorperate a 17 year old in a medieval school into politics? at the moment I'm stuck! oh well...

I managed to get another 1,500 words approximately done on friday along with re working some of my earlier chapters. its definately right back on track again which is a huge relief.
in a months time i will have finished uni for the year so that will mean theres alot of writing time coming up in the near future. but for now i just have to squeeze it in between these final assignments and exam prep.

Go Holly. So pleased that it's happening for you. And don't worry, Cassie. Sometimes it works, other times you just have to sit and think about it a bit longer. Can I ask, why did you want to incorporate politics? And why do you want it to be complicated? Neither of those elements are necessary for a successful novel. Why don't you just try writing it the way it seems the most fun for you, and when you get to the end, if it seems to need more complications, work them in at that point. But chances are, you'll be fine with it.
And if someone said my books were "heaps like Harry Potter" I'd be flattered. Because Harry Potter books are very good.
Deb, so pleased that you're still clicking over there and enjoying it, even if you do have a squillion kids around you. Only another six sleeps to go!
Alyson, you have a relaxing break, it will be a great time to let ideas ferment and clarify. I'm thoroughly enjoying my time off, although I think I'll be all videod out by Friday! Still, doing lots of curling up in bed/on the couch/at the breakfast table with a book, so that's working....isn't it?

Of course that's working, Lou!!!!! Goodness, if you add in eating chocolate that's doing overtime! We should all work that hard...
Glad you are having a relaxing break in between books, Lou! You cannot create if your creativity well is dry... best refill it with rest, reading, fun and chocoalte.
Holly, YAY for you! Getting some writing done and a big break coming up soon. You must be thrilled.
Cassie, sounds as if you are trudging through the shadows at the moment.
We all have lousy times and it does often effect both our writing and our own opinion of our writing, (YOU know those dreaded muddy coloured glasses!)
I agree with Lou. Write for fun, not for what you think others want in your story. And don't force the story in ways it doesn't want to go. Just let it come out as it wants to evolve.
Try going back to the part before you were stumped - don't delete what you have written after that point, just cut and paste it in anohter file for now - now allow the story to evolve from that fun point.
Just relax and let it tell itself. I was blocked for months because I tried to force my novel in a certain direction. Then after Lou posted the "Flying into the mist" thread, I cut out the forced parts, went back a couple of chapters and just said to my muse, "Go for it!" And BOOM! UNblocked
(I must admit, I did not like seeing my word count slip backwards when I cut out the huge chunks of text... but it was worth it in the long run.)
Now I cannot wait to write each day because I have no idea what's going to happen next... so much more fun this way.
You can always add layers of polotics and religion (etc) in after you finish the first draft - that is if it needs it. Alot of times, a fun adventure is better than some whopping political epic.
Alyson.... enjoy your week off! Write if you want to, let your next story simmer while you watch DVDs if you like... Just fill up that creativity well...

another is the people! some of you i havent met, so a great big hi to you all!
as for those i do know since the birth of this little/big forum, how impressed i am to see you all working hard and pumping out those words!
with so much to do for uni, i am afraid that i havent really been writing, but the next best thing to writing is thinking about the project! So thats what im doing! in admist the termoil of essays on the dental care of horses and how a grass grows, im dreaming of what is going on in the other worlds i have created.
to add alittle spark to the wood, i finally got myself a copy of Dinotopia on DVD. i have been a Dinotopia fan for years and years, and now they made the movie, i was out there to get it! even got a DVD player, pretty neat! anyone seen it? alittle childish, but what can be expected of it!
off to look at the rest of the board!
talk soon guys! I'll try and come to the chat some time this month, but.... things always seem to be falling on the sunday when i have to attend.

lousie i have no idea why i want a complex book...i just do i think its more of a personale thing than anything else and i love politics so i feel yeah writing is more fun when you can incorperate what you enjoy into them its just at the moment it seems a little imposible:( but im slowly dragging out solutions so very pinfully slow. no actually i just think i need to sit down and think about it but i havnt rteally gotten around to it yet because it irritaes me:( oh well things will be okedoke in the end:)

Cassie, if you feel it needs to be complicated, there might be a reason for that. I was complaining to a writing friend (when I was half way through book two) that I should never have invented four worlds that moved at different times because it made things way too difficult. But she said there must have been a reason for that, or otherwise I would never have thought of it, so I just trusted the process and in the end it all worked out fine.
Perhaps that will happen for you too.
Well, my manuscript for book three arrived back from the structural editor yesterday, but "I'm on holidays" so I put it away in the study and won't look at it until Monday. Aren't I disciplined? It's covered in yellow post it notes, but I'm sure it will all work out. It always does.

im realy happy for you deb! great work!
Go Deb!

So pleased that it's all still flowing Deb. Can't wait for the 100k celebration.
Alyson, how's the new job going? Are you managing to get any writing time? And if so, what are you working on? The screenplay still?
I'm working my way through my structural edit on book three and have until the end of November to finish. Taking the day off today to visit my friend who lives on an island in Moreton Bay. More research for the sea trilogy I'm telling myself, but it could be just a lovely day of fresh sea air and fabulous coffee!

Written nothing - had to get that off my chest so you can all slap my wrist! Been three weeks now - eek! Good to write that down so I can see how long its been.
Received a letter from M&B to say ... they recieved my MS. Yay! At least I can now fret that they DO have the work not that they DON'T!
Have been reading lots. John Le Carre - i you want to see a guy with a distinctive voice - I would know a sentence of his anywhere - love him. And Janet Evannovich - a lot of bright breezy, easy fun.

I'm like you Alyson - not writing at all. I mean I have the time to go online like now and waste away a few hours when I SHOULD be studying like crazy for my looming exams! I just haven't really had the time and again but I really want to!!!
At the same time I haven't been reading much at all. I got the book 'The Alchemist' that my friend recommended to me saying that there was a purpose for him telling me to read it but I haven't read much of it... and then there's 'Daughter of The Dark' which I haven't got very far in. And there's 'Stone of Tears' by Terry Goodkind that I've been leaving there for so long.... I really want to continue reading these books but when i want to, it's like I think I should be reading those books I have for English or Lit. I'm also supposed to read 'The Two Towers' of LOTR before the movie comes out but I still haven't completed the first one!!!
