A daily I'll come to Australia and then buy I your book shops empty! That I promise you.

BTW, Alyson, your life slogan pleases me so much that I take the liberty here to repeat:

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Thanks Lou!

And thanks Grace. Glad you liked it. When the book comes out you can buy it from amazon.com! You never know, it might come out in German one year - Mills and Boons tend to come out in lots of languages so I'll let you know!

character archetypes

September 18 2003, 7:11 AM

Found another great site.  It's Tami Cowden's and she's written a book on character archetypes.  She lists them here with a paragraph for each type, with great movie examples to illustrate:

Thanks for the Tami site Louise, it's going to be great for me I know. I have for years been into Jo Campbell's works about archetypes and suspect my characters will heavily evolve into this realm. Fantastic to have another voice and website resource.. thanks

BTW

October 21 2003, 6:24 PM

Dear Friends, just a question, I'm wondering what tell you to your little children, if they ask, where from they come? I mean, here people says: the stork bring the babys or one finds on the kraut-field...
What do you say?

What to say...

October 21 2003, 8:10 PM

My Dad was always very honest with me and my older brother. He got us two books: "Where did I come from?" and "What is happening to me?" The first explains (with cute pictures for kiddies) sex etc. and the second explains why we change (again with cut little pictures for the kiddies). I think Dad like them because he didn't have to tell us anything...just thrust the book into our hands when we were old enough.

Grace, I didn't think anyone still said that stork thing!  How fascinating.  I told the kids the real deal when they were five or six (a version that wasn't too scary for them) and went over the facts a couple of times as they got older adding more detail.  I think the book thing is a great idea and I have a few of varying complexity here for them to look at.  Of course, my guys are now 13 & 15 so the last thing they want to talk to me about is sex (might make them start thinking about where they came from...ew!).

The beginning

October 25 2003, 12:27 AM

I had those books Dale! They were great! I do remember my mother sitting me down and telling me that she and Dad and God sat down one night and made a baby. The vision that produced still stays with me today and I promise my vision was set at the kitchen stove rather than in the bedroom!

Too much information?

October 25 2003, 4:49 PM

Ha! I had this sudden thought while reading your post, Ally. My Dad, my brother and I were driving...god knows where...and I can remember my dad telling us about masturbation! Now THAT was an awkward talk (not for him...but for me and my brother sitting in the back seat.........I shiver just thinking about it!)

IT'S NEVER TOO MUCH OF EDUCATION

October 25 2003, 9:28 PM

I as an infant got the fairy with the stork to hear. Later, as I asked my mother questions, she has made a bad conscience for me, how I can her so which ask? Their the topic was too embarrassing. And so my facts of life education took over the backyard with its "most beautiful" mode of expression Books and magazines I had to procure myself. At this time to the physician to go and to take off have was inconceivable for me...
I never saw it that my parents kissed themselves or embraced, I asked the two, how they have me become(?), perhaps brought along me nevertheless the stork :)Fortunately, in my teens, came the 70ties with the sexual revolution...

For my son, lack of father, I told the whole truth with all facets and nuances. Essentially and for it 7 or 8 at that time understandable way, but really in detail; it was needful.
It was not simple for me, but I am proud on me that I made it in such a way.

Cheers

I'm proud of you too, Grace

And heaven help me if my dad had decided to have that talk with me - in the car or anywhere.  Thankfully in the seventies parents left it up us to find out the facts of life and I found out from my older sister, so it was way less embarrassing than mum or dad bumbling through it.

Things are different now days, however, and if I've embarrassed my kids talking to them about sex, that's their problem, not mine!

I told the girls the truth

October 29 2003, 5:39 AM

Ex Hubby and I made sure the girls knew at a young age where they came from. We spoke of it the same way Lou did with her kids a bit at a time until they were old enough to understand the rest. I am glad I did now.

Nancy, that's the road we're taking with J and X. I have never hidden things like periods from them. They have yet to ask how the man's sperm gets from his penis to the woman's womb to make a baby, but they understand that the man's sperm fertilises the woman's egg (X younger than J because she was around when he asked the question).

And I've got just the news to sneak us back onto the websites theme of this thread.  Fiona, a Muser from way back who's on break from the 'board, has just constructed a new website and it looks all fresh and fab.  It's at: http://www.fionajane.com/website/index.htm.  Click over and suss it out of you have time.  There are photos of her cute little dogs and I just love the frangipani theme.  So fresh for summer.

Hey Grace - I saw info about the Road recently on a travel TV show we have (called Getaway) and it sounds very interesting!

I am currently reading up on travel stuff as I will be in UK and Europe from May onwards, so this is one I will have to print out and keep for Germany. Email me if you have any other suggestions!
