Book in a Year 2005

December 21 2004 at 11:51 AM

Okay, folks, this is the thread where you commit yourself to action!  I'd like to see people stepping up to the mark to declare their writing intentions for the next 12 months.  I'm happy to start:

In 2005 I intend to finish my Little Mermaid story, polish and sell it, and to write the second book in that adult fairy tale series in draft by Christmas 2005.

Next...?

I will finally finish polishing my first book (getting those notes turned into actual changes) and I will finish my second book (ie: edit edit and edit!)

Continuing Great Idea Lou!

December 24 2004, 5:44 AM

And of course I will undoubtedly begin a new book (I have a lovely one in my mind right now but Xmas is getting in the way of my concentration - and I am currently willing to be distracted: On March The Food and Presents!)
But I do not believe I will actually send my second book (the favourite so far) to a publisher. Simply because I know I will want to add so many little things to it, and because next year is going to be particularly busy wih me moving to a uni campus and rejoining the human race (I have been somewhat of a hermit for the last...2 years).
Tata all!

December 26 2004, 3:44 PM

I commit myself to finish final edit (which I started today) on the first book and get an agent or have the book sold by the end of the year. Have thr first draft for second book finished by the end of 2005.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas

Good on you Timna! I can't believe I wrote that - it feels like years ago!!! Well I achieved it...quite a long time ago, actually! First book done and happily collecting dust (it stank...I was an amateur *shrug*) Second book: done and now sitting next to the first. Now, already well into third book. Wow what a booster!!!

Wow, I am seriously behind schedule! Well, I've finished my Mermaid book and am currently editing. Had a session today to flesh out the plot of book two of the series: Beauty and Mr Beast. So I'm working on the second book, even if I haven't started draft yet...

Ideas for Louise's next fairy tale

November 15 2005, 10:18 PM

I read this in the paper and thought of you, Louise, and your fairy tale novels.

In an article about Princess Mary, in the Australian, there was this:

"It goes to show that even princesses with legions of minders and spin doctors aren't able to whitewash thier past. It also revelas tat princessification inthe 21st century does not involve only antique tiaras and jewelled slippers. there may aslo ne a provate investigator outside your suburban palce, ransacking your bin on rubbish night. Now, why don't they ever mention that in the fairytales?"

My mind leapt forward to a modernised fairytale, complete with bin ransacking ogres dredging up bits of past, wished forgotten.

There was also a note how Princess Mary has influenced the Australian sex industry. "One Sydney bondage parlour does a roaring trade in straight, cross-dressing male clients who pay to dress up as Mary and re-enact her wedding." My mind boogles at the thought.

Wow, Catrin, my mind boggles at that thought too! (glad my imagination doesn't stretch in that direction...)

The only reality TV show that seems to have snagged me is Australian Princess and although I spend most of the hour shouting encouragement to the girls and calling Paul Burrell a tosser (my daughter walks past and says, "Why are you watching it if it's all crap, mum") I'm hooked. Or I was until my TV ceased to function a fortnight ago. Must admit I'm enjoying the new quiet that's descended on my house, and despite cricket withdrawal, I'm not in a hurry to replace it. Who knows, I might actually get my pile of "to be read" books down a little

Hey Skaldi, lovely to hear from you again, and glad to hear you're finishing off your book. Me too! There's a lovely rounded-off feeling to finishing a project as the year comes to a close. I think I'll always try and start new books in the new year. Mind you, spring, when the world is fresh and coming into flower is a good time too. Then there's winter, when it's all cold outside and cozy and warm snuggled up in front of your computer...

Guess there's no wrong time to start
