WRITING WORKSHOP: Medieval Backdrops for Fantasy Writers

The Middle Ages is used and misused by a lot of fantasy writers. This workshop provides you with some background, focusing mainly on worldview and the built environment. We will work at understanding basic constructs and on applying them to novels. If we have time we will also talk about social structure and legal systems and how they operated. If you have specific questions for your own work, we will address them in the last half hour of the workshop.
Gillian Polack has a PhD in Medieval history and mainly teaches through the Australian National University Centre for Continuing Education and the ACT Writers' Centre. More about Gillian:
