WRITING WORKSHOP: Medieval Backdrops for Fantasy Writers

Tutor: Gillian Polack

Friday 14 April, 10:00am to 1:00pm

Mercure Hotel, Brisbane

The Middle Ages is used and misused by a lot of fantasy writers. This workshop provides you with some background, focusing mainly on worldview and the built environment. We will work at understanding basic constructs and on applying them to novels. If we have time we will also talk about social structure and legal systems and how they operated. If you have specific questions for your own work, we will address them in the last half hour of the workshop.
Gillian Polack has a PhD in Medieval history and mainly teaches through the Australian National University Centre for Continuing Education and the ACT Writers' Centre. More about Gillian: http://www.gillianpolack.com or on her blog http://gillpolack.livejournal.com

This workshop is being organised and hosted by Conjure: 45th Australian National Science Fiction Convention, Brisbane, April 14-17 (www.conjure.org.au)

Price: $38.50 for Conjure members; $60.00 non-members (QWC members receive the special Conjure rate of $38.50)
