What I LOVE about writing

I thought I'd like to start a thread (which hopefully will inspire us on those "muddy glasses" days) where we can list everything we LOVE about writing. So for me:

I adore waking up every morning wondering what my characters will do today. That anticipation is with me even when I'm going off to sleep and it makes me happy. I love the feeling that I'm like this closet witch conjuring spells to create a world and the people who inhabit it. I also like (I have to admit) the feeling that not everyone can do that. It makes me feel special, but not unique - I've met too many other talented writers out there to believe that!

I love getting lost in the story, and even anticipating that feeling by setting the alarm on my mobile phone so I won't forget the time I have to finish. I love reading bits that I've written and thinking "That's so clever. Readers will love that." Boasting, I know, but it makes me happy. And most of all (for some reason) I love it when my writing makes me cry (or laugh out loud). Then I know I've really tapped into something powerful.

What I love about writing.

I can lose myself into another world and with other people. I can forget where I am, what time it is and what's going on around me.

What I love...

I love it when it works. I love that, just for a moment, I'm getting a glimpse into the life of someone I didn't know until this book/story started. I love that if it is working, you aren't actually getting to play God, because those pesky wee characters take on their own form of free will. I love the pedanticism of creating a new world and making sure all of the bits of it work, and then forcing the characters to work around it, just like we have to.

I love it when my son tells his friends I'm a writer and they all think he's cool because of it.

I even love it when I hate it.
