Picture Posting - How to do it

Before you can post pictures to the HKN Forum, you have to register for a Network54 account and then log in.

To create your account go to:

http://www.network54.com/Help/?topic=Getting%20Started:Signup

Next time you write a message, use the LOGIN dialog at the top of the message form. You will then see an extra button appear at the bottom of the form called INSERT OBJECT.

This is where the fun really begins. Whoever designed this was not familiar with 'user friendly' as a concept .

Click on the INSERT OBJECT button, and if you're lucky you'll get the catchily titled "Dialog -- Web Page Dialog" box appearing. I'll call this the 'black box'.

Click on 'Temporary Files'
Click on 'Upload'
Click on 'Browse'

Note the restrictions on file names, only alphanumerics, underscores, and periods are allowed, i.e. no spaces, symbols or other characters. Hyphens are NOT allowed.

Select a local file to upload using the Windows dialog, then when you return to the black box, click on 'Upload'.

The selected file will then be copied to your Network54 temporary file area and will be listed at the left side of the black box.

If all is still going according to plan, a thumbnail image will appear on the right side of the black box. To insert the image into your message, click on 'Insert'.

The text will actually say either 'Insert Image' or 'Insert Link', it doesn't matter though, they both do the same job.

You will then be returned to your message, which should contain a link to the image in the format

"http: //www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1028794943.JPG"

When you post your message, the full size image will appear in it.

Note also that there is an individual image file size restriction in the region of 125 Kb, as well as a restriction on the total size of all the image files you can have in your temporary area. (Don't worry about this though, anytime you run out of space you can just create a new account and use that to post with, the email address you use in the signup can be entirely fictitious).

Good Luck
