Response to How do I set up my Miata for drift?

im not an expert, so dont take this as gospel but ive heard Miata's have a similar suspension setup to AE86's.. So i would imagine similar mods would work?

Here is what i think.. LSD, yes, definatly. I dont think AE86 or Miata has the power to Drift well without an LSD. My stock 1.5 way OEM LSD makes life much easier compared to my friends Open Diff RS13, and that car has some power. I would get an LSD as soon as possible.

Secondly, stiffer shocks and springs cant hurt. I dont know the "ins" and "outs" of drift setups, but having uprated shocks and springs is going to help alot. I stiffen the rear Damping when i drift in my AE86, so adjustable stuff is nice to play with, but not essential. I presume that the Miata needs a shorter lateral bar/panhard rod when the rear is lowered? (Solid Axle like AE86).

Finally, a rear sway bar works well for creating over steer..

But basically, practicing is the most important part, regardless of setup..

Good luck, and Happy New Year!

Paz
