(8/8/2003) Following the overwhelming success of "Southern Shaolin" when it was released in China in the second quarter of the year, its sequel "36 Chambers of Southern Shaolin" starring Jason Wu Jing, Anita Yuen and Zhang Tie Lin is currently in pre-production. Yuen Cheung Yan will continue to helm the sequel, penned by Zhu Ke-Xin and Guo Jun-Li, which further heightens the heroic exploits of Fang Shi Yu, who has grown from a frolicsome brat to a chivalrous hero in the original series.

(9/13/2003) Shooting of 36th Chamber of Southern Shaolin commences on 16 September in Hengdian. The cast includes new members: Anita Yuen Wing Yee and Julian Cheung Chi Lam as well as original stars Zhang Tie Lin and Jason Wu Jing, Theresa Lee, Li Nan, etc. who will again reprise their roles. Yuen Cheung-Yan, whose Hollywood action credits include Daredevil and Charlie's Angels, again takes the helm as the director and is expected to bring novel, authentic feel to the action scenes.
"36th Chamber of Southern Shaolin" is about swordswoman Lu Siniang (Anita Yuen), in order to seek reprisal on Emperor Yongzheng (Zhang Tie Lin) for extermination of her entire clan due to Infernal Literature Inquisition, returns to her hometown Haining with a plan to kidnap Fourth Prince Hongli (Li Nan). Prince Hongli runs into Southern Shaolin's lay disciple Fang Shiyu (Jason Wu), whose intervention unwittingly foils her plan. Yongzheng died mysteriously and Hongli ascends the throne as Emperor Qianlong. He orders Fang Shiyu to arrest Lu Siniang, who is suspected of the murder. However, the two turn from enemies to friends, to soul mates, to a pair who shares weal and woe, is bound by life and death...
