know Cantonese...i've read yr past translations (those a few years back) and you've done a good job. Yeah! I know how tough it is to figure out all those Canto words, imagine even I find it tedious to figure out all those non-standard Canto words...it can get quite mind-boggling not to mention confusing....yeh! speaking it only helps to a certain extent but I don't really know traditional Chinese, so I need to figure out what some words are or I guess the pronounciation based on the word's radical...and u can't even look them up in a dictionary cos some words are just inventions (where they put the radicals together based on the sound of the word in Canto)...and since it's based on the phoenetics of the word, the same meaning/word can be written differently by different people too...see even talking abt it is such a mouthful...hope i don't sound confusing above...haha :P
btw, frankly, it's no big deal being able to speak a dialect and Mandarin. Hey, Cains can speak both as well! In fact, I'm considered rather bad 'cos lotsa people here in Singapore and Malaysia can speak many different Chinese dialects or at least a smattering of some dialects,even if not that proficient in any particular one. Guess that's the advantage of being in a multi-racial and multi-dialect society. It's quite a shame that I don't know much Hokkien/Fujian (or known as Minan hua in Taiwan) altho' I've been in Singapore for so many years. I only know very basic ones & v.little really. That's why I had to read the sub-titles when I was watching the 2nd half of Gu Lian Hua (where the dialogues are in Hokkien.)
