well, i wouldn't exactly call that a happy ending.. in a way, everyone is okay.. but I guess, I'm looking at it from anita's point of view. and it's very sad for her.
for all her life, she's been having it tough. in the series, she had 3 guys who all like her and would sacrifice anything for her: the main character, the friend from China who later married another girl but still loves her, the police friend (the fat guy) from HongKong who later saved her daughter from the fire. Yet, in the end, anita ends up with no one. plus, she's been going through lots of hardships, mentally and financially too.
even though in the end, anita is doing okay. but that's still a very lonely life. yeah, she has an adopted son and a real daughter, but they're all grown and very soon will go on with their own life.. and anita is left behind with no one though she's successful as a career woman. the main character is back with his wife, realizing they're a family expecting a new baby. the friend from China finally realizes he should love his own wife, after the wife commits suicide. the fat guy from hongkong died a long time ago. so really, anita has no one to fall back on. how sad.
