Anita appeared at a Taipei TV Festival and press conference on 29 November 2004 in Taiwan together with co-star, Xiao Shu Zhen, the director and male lead. Xiao Shu Zhen had attempted suicide by swallowing 150 sleeping pills recently. She had also condemned the press and Taiwan’s laws, comparing them to ‘fart’.
However, Xiao was silent at the press event, refusing to grant any interviews even when she was pursued from the room out onto the streets. When she did speak, she revealed that she had thought of requesting for a change in roles as she found her role to be very difficult. Actually, Xiao only has a small part in “Gu Lian Hua”.
Anita Yuen, lead actress of “Gu Lian Hua”, spoke up for her; and asked the media to give Xiao some time and understanding as she was still a young girl. (Trust our Anita to be the protective ‘Big Sister’! Always so caring!)

Thanks to Mariska & Taiwanese news. ..it seems that Anita's Taiwense co-star, Xiao Shuzhen has injured her waist a couple of weeks ago & had to stop filming to rest.
Then, last week, she was hospitalized for alledgedly committing suicide over media reports that she was a mistress.
So, filming for "Gu Lian Hua" had halted and the director had asked Anita to go back to HK to rest for the time being. Sigh! Seems that this tv serials has encountered lotsa obstacles
I hope it will finish filming soon!

It seems Michael Wong Chiu Sang (he acted in "Infernal Affairs too) had insisted on partnering with Anita to give out the "Best Supporting Actor" award at the coming Golden Horse Award on 4 Dec. Seems Michael knows Anita pretty well (hey, never knew this!)
Actually, earlier on, there were news that Anita together with Syvlia Zhang Ai Jia were nominated to be host at this award ceremony but in the end, Taiwanese model, Lin Chi-Ling (who's very famous in Taiwan now) was chosen.

when she was an athlete ,she was not pretty but when she won Miss HK ,she was great .It was a long distance maybe because she didn't make up .Looking at her pictures when she attended Beauty Contest ,I couldn't believe that she was 19 but general speaking ,she is beautiful .

However, once I turned 15, 16, I changed my previous thought. A life of how many materialistic things is enough? What kind of things can we use to measure such? If my mother had to work, our family would be better off. My life in the present is still the same as always even if my financial state at the moment is much better off than my parents back then. I admit that I see myself as a very happy and lucky child even if I had to live in unfavorable conditions without a lot of materialistic things. Because of that, I had always hoped later in life I could have the chance to help those who are in need. Years ago, I had wished to attend and join in charity functions, but I have yet to fulfill that wish until now.
From all of the charity functions that I’ve attended, the most memorable one is when I went to help those underprivileged children in Gui Zhou, China. I have spent 7 days there, without my fancy clothes, without my hair stylist, without a make-up artist, and without reporters following me around. Those seven days I lived like any regular citizen of Gui Zhou and have the freedom to anything that I wished.
Returning from Gui Zhou, I was uncertain whether I have changed into a completely different person or not. Nevertheless, because of that trip, I found myself appreciating the things in my life more, in that include friends, my current life, and the opportunity to learn more. I am truly touched when I saw all those kids of Gui Zhou wanting to go to school but unable to because of their poor family conditions, especially all the girls. There were plenty of kids who had to stay home all day and can’t go to school. Looking at the children, I suddenly realized that I was truly blessed and lucky. Because when I was young, I had the chance to attend school, working during summer vacations while studying for the entrance exam. Thus, haven’t I always lived in happiness?
When referring to the underprivileged citizens of Gui Zhou, I had a taste of a dinner that I may never forget for the rest of my life. Flies were abundant and everywhere as they landed on every dish on the table. I had to constantly use my hands to shoo them away. I felt really uncomfortable when I was looking at the dishes on the table. However, the local people still surrounded me. They not only sang but also kept putting food into my bowl, putting me in a situation where I cannot refuse their generosity. All in all, their actions really touched me because of their welcoming hearts and guest-loving personalities of a country town. After I came back to Hong Kong, I was resolved to do something good for them, especially helping those children to be able to attend schools. Whenever I was free, I would sit down and knit scarves for the kids, and already I have ten done.”
“I want to be a strong woman:”
Since young, my family had instilled upon me the view of life: do anything as you wish, but you will have to endure whatever consequences that come, and you can’t blame or beg for another person’s help. Thus, from a child growing up in a house with a commune kind of discipline (Anita’s father and a few relatives are all police officers), I slowly became a savior (to some people) and a devil (to others). Before, rarely do I listen to other people’s suggestions. It seemed as if I had never spoken the words “I agree” so easily and obligingly. Because of that I never had a lot of friends, but as long as I can convey my feelings and happiness then it is already enough.

AS to your qn, sori, i really have no idea. But try getting fresh aloe vera, and use the flesh inside to clease your skin. Since aloe vera is supposed to be good for skin in general, it shouldn't do any harm. But no guarantee it'll work tho'. Good luck!

For a long time ,I wish I could take part in charitable activities, but I just got to turn it into reality recently.Among those voluntary journeys,the journey to Chuchow-Mainland to help poor children impressed me most.I got 7 days there,without dressing up, without hairdresser,without make-up,without reporter.Those're 7 days I lived like the others of Chuchow and I had much freedom to do everything I want.Coming back from Chuchow, I'm not sure that I've become an another person.But truthfuly,owing to that journey,I got to know loving many more things,including friends,my present life and any chances of study.I was really touched when I saw many children in Chuchow couldn't afford to go to school though they really wanted.Especially girls,many girls had to be at home all day,they weren't allowed to go to school.Seeing them,I suddenly found myself really happy and lucky.In my childhood,I could go to school,and in the summer ,I could work for extra money and learnt athletics.So wasn't I happy?
Staying with ethnic minority people at Chuchow,I was treated to a meal which I can't forget for all my life.There were so many flies,they perched on food dishes,I must keep waving my hand to drive them away.I really felt worried when looking at the meal.But local people surrounded me,singing while picking up food and putting it into my bowl,that made me couldn't deny...Anyway,they made me touched by their simple mind and hospitality.After coming back to Hong Kong, I decided to do sth useful for them,especially,trying to help poor children to go to school.In my free time,I knit scarves for them,now is abt 10 ones.

hmn, i wonder when did Anita go on that community work trip to help the poor children in China. If this article was published in Oct, then i supposed it must be a recent event. But so far, i've not read anything abt this fr any other sources. (only knew that she went on one such trip some time back in '97 secretly & there some photos of it were published much later)

When Anita was filming “Gu Lian Hua” in Shanghai, the director found Anita chatting animatedly on the phone & thought that she was talking with her brother. Then, Anita told him that she was actually speaking to her “living Buddha”. Sometimes, she would even be on the phone a few times a day, if not everyday and she would always have lots to talk about with him.
Although ChiLam and Anita has been together for many years but there has never been any news of Anita being pregnant before. Anita has always said that, “she’s living to give birth to children”. The strange thing was, 5 years ago, Anita dreamt that she really gave birth to a baby boy. She could see the boy’s face very clearly – he was very handsome with nice, long slender fingers. As she doesn’t know what it was supposed to mean, she went round asking people to decipher the meaning of her dream. Some of her older relatives told her that it was good news & that it meant, “Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Yin) sending her a child”.
Then, 2 years ago, when Anita went to Nepal to pray(she is a devout Buddhist), she found that a 7-year old boy sitting next to her looked exactly like the boy she had dreamt about. And he even has the same slender fingers too. She showered all her motherly love on him, giving him chocolates, etc. & called him “my living buddha”.
Anita makes a bi-annual pilgrimage to Nepal and visits this little boy at same time. (wow! she goes to nepal twice a year! hmn, wonder if we would ever bump into her if we were to go to nepal) He’s now 12 years old & is studying in India. Anita always call him to ask how he is doing (since he’s away from home) or just to chit-chat. (wow!i’m so envious of this little boy! Wish I were him! Don’t u?)
Well, guys, what do u think of this news? Seems to me Anita badly wants to be a mother…I mean having such a dream & all…but it’s also a little ‘scary’ that she actually dreamt of the boy that she would meet a few years later…it’s just too coincidental…can’t explain why…I’m a little uncomfortable abt such stuff..but whatever it is, I hope she will have her own children soon since this is what she really wants.. Ok, here're all the additional points from the many other news articles Mariska sent me these 2 days. I've summarised them & put in point form cos there' too many to translate separately & with duplications here & there.
Here¡¯re some additional points from all the other news articles:
1. Anita said, ¡°I¡¯m always afraid of co-operating with female co-stars cos there¡¯ll always be rumours of us not getting along. But it¡¯s different this time, I actually end up falling for Li Sinjie.¡± And ¡°I¡¯m really afraid ¡®cos I¡¯m someone who loves men alot.¡±
2. Based on the novel by Bai Xian Yong, it talks about lesbian in the 1950¡¯s. In the end, Angelicia Lee¡¯s character will die in Anita¡¯s arms.(how tragic & romantic) Anita acts as a famous actor in a Shanghai night-club (some reports say ¡®mamasan¡¯) & Angelicia Lee is a young singer whom she took in from the streets.
a. Anita plays an elegant and beautiful mamasan, Yun Fang, who has brilliant social skills but is actually lonely deep down in her heart.
b. She couldn¡¯t control her desire for Angelicia¡¯s character, Wu Bao.
c. Wu Bao dies while fleeing from danger. Yun Fang fleds to Taiwan and found Wu Bao¡¯s shadow in another singer, Juan Juan (played by Xiao Shu Zhen). But Yun Fang realized that one does not need to hold true love tightly in one¡¯s hands.)
d. Director, Cao Rui Yuan estimates that ¡°Gu Lian Hua¡± will be ready for screening in February next year. He has completed filming 7 episodes in Shanghai. Will start filming the Taiwan part on 4 Oct.
3. Anita said she has many friends who are homosexual so she¡¯s not resistant to lesbianism. But she did not let Angelicia know about her love for her ¡®cos Angelicia loves her boyfriend very much. She even leaked out that Angelicia would spend lots of time with her boyfriend everyday.
4. Anita has admitted to ChiLam that she likes females too. She felt that especially for her intimate friends, they should know what ¡°likes¡± mean. But she added that she places importance on the love aspect of it & not the sexual part.
5. Anita who usually has lots of restrictions when filming; like not working more than 13 hours a day, not allowing make-up artist to draw her lips, not plucking her eyebrows, no scene which would overly exposed herself, doesn¡¯t like to wear high-heels; has surprised herself by acceding to the director¡¯s many requests. Anita said, ¡°Strange! The director managed to convince me in a lot of things this time and I actually listen to him.¡± This include:
a) Plucking her eye-brow: She hasn¡¯t pluck her eyebrows for years ¡®cos whenever she does so, she would lose very badly when playing mahjong. (ha!ha! I finally know why she doesn¡¯t pluck her eye-brows. I¡¯ve always wondered why.)
b) She has worked 18-hour days when filming this.
c) She allowed the make-up artist to do her lips ¡®cos the director feels that her lips are too thick. (hmn, maybe for women of that era, in ¡®50¡¯s, thinner lips are considered beautiful.)
6. Anita was on a whirl-wind, 4-hour promotional tour in Taiwan on 28 Sep, before heading back to HK to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with her parents.
7. Some contradiction here: Some reports said that Anita would meet up with Angelicia 3 times a week even after returning to HK but other reports said Anita did so while they were filming in Shanghai. One even said that Anita was OK after she went back to HK.
8. Anita said she scolds herself silently while plucking her eye-brows, ¡°Why am I so stupid as to accept a role in this very tiring movie?¡± (Ha!ha! Anita is so funny!)
9. Anita said the first time she went out with Angelicia, she has ¡®that type¡¯ of feeling. And she has not experienced this before. Anita felt very happy whenever she sees Angelicia. But it¡¯s not lust or passion.
10. The other lead actress for Taiwan part of the tv series, Xiao Shu Zhen, is willing to bare all for her role, if required. She was also asked to trim her eye-brows.(I think women of that era, ¡®50¡¯s has thin eye-brows.) She will have a very daring bedroom scene.
11. Anita felt she has grown up after acting in this series. When everyone thought she¡¯s referring to her breast, her face reddened and quickly added. ¡°No, I¡¯m referring to my thinking. There¡¯s nothing much I can do about my chest unless it¡¯s man-made.¡± (Can they stop talking about her chest..god!)
12. Anita praises Angelicia Li, saying that she¡¯s bright, adorable, tough, principled, easy to get along with, respects her profession and serious about her work. She said, ¡°That¡¯s why I always wanted to be close to her.¡±
13. When asked about ChiLam, Anita said, ¡°Who cares about him! I¡¯m not even sure if he has read ¡®Gu Lian Hua¡¯ ¡±. (Ha!Ha! First time I ever heard Anita talk like this about ChiLam. Looks like he had better be careful of losing Anita to another woman¡hee!hee!)
14. The director has very strict standards for his artistes. He felt that Anita¡¯s lips and eye-brows were too thick, that Anita was not womanly enough, that she has lots of regulations and principles too. But after getting to know her, he praised her. That her acting is very multi-layered and definitely has standard. (Of course! What does he think? I¡¯m sure he wouldn¡¯t choose Anita for this role if he didn¡¯t think she was good.)
15. Anita held Xiao Shu Zhen¡¯s shoulder and said jokingly, ¡°I hope you¡¯ll be the 2nd woman that I¡¯ll fall for.¡± (Ha!ha!) but she¡¯s also afraid.
16. Anita who has always given audience an androgynous feel, mainly ¡®cos of her flat chest and forthright character, appeared to have her character, Yun Fang¡¯s shadow in her. She appeared with black nail polish yesterday, exuding another type of womanly charm.
17. Maybe Anita doesn¡¯t know she has been ¡®poisoned¡¯ by this director cos when the lead actor starred in ¡°Nie Zhi¡± (¡°Evil Child¡±, literal translation), also by the same director, he also fell for his male co-star. The movie is about male homosexual. (God!It¡¯s scary working for this director, man!)
18. Anita, who is a devout Tibetan Buddhist, disclosed that she had dreamt of a small kid many years ago. When she was in Nepal, she actually met a ¡®living buddha¡¯ who looks exactly like the kid she had dreamt of. And they¡¯re good friends now. (Wow! What a lucky monk. Don¡¯t you wish, you were that monk too?)
19. Although Anita & Chilam has not decided to get married yet, one of her aims in life is to have a child. But it¡¯s just that she¡¯s still rather ¡®playful¡¯ now (like her character has not ¡®stabilised¡¯ or ¡®steady..sori, couldn¡¯t think of a very good translation for ¡®bu ding xing¡¯.) so she shouldn¡¯t do something irresponsible. (but really, I think this should refer to ChiLam & not herself.)
20. Anita said although ¡°Gu Lian Hua¡± is a very good story but she hesitated for a long time before accepting the role ¡®cos she felt it was rather ridiculous that a 12-episode tv series would take 5 months to film. Then, one day, she received a call from HK director, Guan Jing Peng (sori,I¡¯ve no idea who he is & I¡¯m not even sure I¡¯ve read his name correctly.) who asked her why has she not accepted the role yet. He told her director Cao is a very good director.
21. It seems that Director Cao Rui Yuan felt that only by making good shows would Taiwan¡¯s film be able to make it big. He was an unknown before the award-winning movie, ¡°Nie Zi¡±. After that, even famed HK Director Guan Jing Peng (I¡¯m guessing is it Stanley Kwan?) recommend HK actors to star in his films.
22. Anita was touched by director Cao¡¯s gentleness and attention to detail. In the end, she was influenced by him too. The usually noisy and loud Anita, did not talk loudly on the set. In fact Anita said, ¡°I don¡¯t know what power this director has. He could actually keep the film set so quiet. I¡¯ve never seen such a quiet set before!¡±
23. But actually such quietness is required ¡®cos her role of Yun Fang requires a lot of deep, multi-layered acting to express Yun Fang¡¯s complex, emotional state. And without the quietness, she wouldn¡¯t be able to do that.
24. In the beginning, Anita was trying to understand director¡¯s style. Whenever he shouts, ¡°Cut!¡± and doesn¡¯t say another word, she knows something was wrong. This director¡¯s forte is ¡°teaching by inspiring/arousing¡±. He would come over to explain what the previous scene was and said, ¡°So, that¡¯s why it¡¯s like that.¡± But Anita does not know what ¡°like that¡± means and she would ask, ¡°What¡¯s ¡®like that¡¯?¡± Later, she learnt to think carefully of what the director had said during the time the director takes to walk back to his seat and finally learnt to be more attuned to his requirements. She waited to ¡®catch the feeling¡¯.

According to this piece of news, Anita was so much in her character when filming "Gu Lian Hua" in Shanghai that she fell in love with Angelicia Li Sinjie. She kept wanting to take care of Sinjie & has dinner with her 3 times a week.She nearly could not get herself out of it.
Anita said she never resisted lesbianism.And felt that love between the same sex is actually purer cos the most impt thing is love. As for bi-sexual love, she said that as long as one is careful about hygienic, then there's no problem if the love is between a man or a woman.
Asked if she had expressed her love to Li Sinjie, Anita said she didn't cos Sinjie already has a loving boyfriend. Anita did not conceal this fact from ChiLam too cos she said, "I'm sure he understands what's it's all about."
