I just bought an ASR-10. Sometimes, when I turn on the power, the lights will turn on (under the display) but the display won't. Eventually after powering it off and on a few times, the display turns on. Is this normal? Should I wait a while after I first turn it on? Thanks in advance!
something may be loose or a wire may be going bad. If you can get it serviced, I would. Turning on and off is not good either because of the wear and tear on the already old circuits. It is a 10 year old keyboard. Get it fixed if you can! It would be a good investment to do so. I feel its a legendary keyboard of our time and worth it!
I recently found a better strategy: as opposed to powercycling it, I just leave it on for a few minutes so that it warms up. Then I powercycle it once, and it works.
How much will it cost to get it serviced, though? I recently bought it off of eBay and I want to make sure I didn't get ripped off...
The guy at my Music store is the same guy who worked as a ensoniq repair station for these particular keyboards. He put in a new scsi recently for $40. This store charges $40 an hour for repairs. I found it so cheap I gave him a $10 tip because I finally got my hands on a ASR-10 on Nov 2004. I had a eps-16+ for over a decade. I didnt know the Asr-10 sounded so much better. Since I didn't really pay attention to the repair rates, I did remember once that another keyboard place charged like $20 bucks to just diagnose a problem. I was at that place trying to get a cheap SK-1 sampling keyboard for 2 bucks at a flea market. I thought it was historical and nice to get fix because Timbaland use one of those to make his first beats. And I remember once that some guy used it to sample sounds for a particlar movie. Anyways, they told me it was not worth fixing. Look in yellow pages for musical repair or something.
when you turn it on the instrument lights are on but the OS won't load and there is no text display. If you press any key #s show on the text display. Any idea what is going on?
